Shooting after bypass

I had a triple bypass in early 2019. Belly shooting is definitely not out. I shoot F Class and was back at it in about 3 months. A few guys I shoot with have had the same procedure and none have any problems with it. If you learn and perfect the log roll to get out and back into bed before you go in it will save you some pain and frustration. When they get you up to walk, do it, you’ll feel better! Opiates make me sick as a dog and I found IV Tylenol to really effective and needed nothing more even in ICU. Definitely do the cardiac rehab. It was actually kind of fun and I felt great after it.
I came out of it with no heart damage. I completely changed my diet and probably now have better cholesterol than when I was in my 20’s. With a little luck I hope to make it another 35 years or so.
Wishing you luck and speedy recovery!
My cholesterol has NEVER been over 100 ......at least since I first had it checked in the mid 90's.

All this positive info is great.....THANKS

You’ll be fine. Don’t do anything dumb to break the sternal wires prematurely- tractor work, heavy lifting, etc… a lot of the guys use brackets now, but the same thing applies. Once the bone is back together, you won’t have any issues shooting. If you end up needing a pacemaker/icd in the future, just get them to put it on the non-shooting shoulder!

**ALSO** remember to ask the surgeon about the extended warranty- very important.

Probably the same warranty I give when I sell a 10 year old car , 150,000 mile unit....... 1,000,000 mile lifetime or untill you turn left.;)

2000 - heart attack with 6 bypasses, open chest, beating heart (gave up tobacco during the ambulance ride to the emergency room).
2012 - heart attack with 2 stents, through one of those little veins on the back of your hand.
2014 - heart attack with 1 stent
2018 - heart attack with 2 stents
About 2 years ago I spread about 3 tons of gravel with a shovel to make shoulders for the driveway.
The only reason I don't shoot from the prone position is because my wife is a darn fine cook. I could give the kids rocking horse rides if I got down on my belly. Then there's the problem of getting back up.
As mentioned above: Do the rehab and stay active. At least walk a mile a day.
Almost forgot, I'm 77 years old

The only this could make sense is if you took 2 years to do it. Even then? But you have survived!

Actually I did it in 2 days. 3 tons of 5's & 7's don't make a big pile. I did take the next couple of days off. At the rifle range.

Going to have a By-pass surgery between the lower Aorta and the Isoles vein ( spelling ? ) that feeds the right Femoral Artery , and a stent put in on the Left side in the next month . I was surprised with the recovery period .
Surgery ....Two Days in Hospital
Two weeks ....lifting nothing heavier than the T.V. Remote .
A week of light duty activities . Doing brass , loading , etc. based on how I felt .
Three to four weeks after surgery , resume normal activities , and a lot of walking throughout the whole recovery . Avoid any heavy lifting , ( over 20 lbs. ) for four to six weeks .

This will give me about three weeks practice time before the SWN . :)

Why would bypass surgery affect your shooting, I’ve had it and made zero changes in any aspect of my life particularly shooting!
I should have it and I’ve made zero changes in the foods I eat. Too many delicious things to eat and life is too short.
