ASS KICKIN

I'm 59 also, when I was 18 and 20 playing baseball and hearing all these horror stories about how dis functional some old athletes became after not being able to play shocked me.Now I understand 100%. When a guy has played sports his whole life and can do nothing believe me it works on your mind.

Yeah, my 74 yo mind knows what I should do at the annual church picnic volleyball games. The vertical jump is now a negative number, My reaction to a spike is more of a history lesson, "hands" are none existent. If a real game, w me on the ladder, I'd be out of breath, passed out, blowing the whistle at my ball handling.
Don't start me on dirt bike ridin' n racin'.......Ahhh, the memories though. It was fun while it lasted.
Le sigh.

Ha! I just gave my old 500cc dirt bike to my brother’s son. Another “That would kill me.” moment as I stood looking at it, so I gave up the dream and called the kid. “You still want my bike?” He picked it up last Saturday.

Yeah Josh, I had the 125 - 175 thought go through my head a few months back. I had the stark realization that WHEN I high sided, I would resemble a rag doll as I bounced along, coming to a stop against a tree. No real core strength. Every joint would be elongated if not destroyed. Not a percentage move on my part. I'll stay w the plain Jane Kaw Mule. A great tool, chain saw, spray tank carrier. But they were GOOOD times, eh?

I played tennis, squash and racquetball through my 40's played tennis competitively in college.
But, I'm ok taking out that drive making small groups in highpower rifle.

I was trying to think of a snappy response and you nailed it. I'm too poor to shoot BR, to old to PRS and too broken to shoot standing steel. I'll just sit on my Butt in a field of alfalfa and be old.

At least shoot that damn woodchuck while you're there!

So, just to be fair, since we have adopted the IBS Tactical class into our club match there has been quite a bit of participation from the PRS shooters. This past weekend tactical outnumbered LG and the top five shot sub 1/2 MOA aggregates. Consider that they had to wait out all the LG and HG shooters and then handle the tougher mid afternoon conditions; and let's talk about most of them did it shooting off bipods on the bench. That is a pretty dang good showing!
PRS isn't just a physical game any more. The top guys know they have to be in great shape but they also have to work had on tuning their ammo and refining their reloading techniques.
They pitched in to help with target duty and anything else we needed to make things go. It was a great day and I hope they will keep on coming.

Well, I shot my FIRST PRS match on Sat. 59 years old, FAT, and WAAAAAYYY out of shape on a very hilly course of fire with a bunch of young whipersnappers!! I was done before I started. In fact.....Someone sent me a picture they posted on their web page......me sitting on the ground, defeated, in a crumpled heap with my blanky (soft gun case) .....embarrassing!!

#OLDAGESUCKS!

It's back to BR shooting for fatso!!

Tod

PS....anyone need any "like new" PRS STUFF?
PSS...what does this have to do with the 6br website.....well...I was shooting a 6mm....does that count?
My experience with PRS was very similar to yours, except I’m a slow learner. I went back for three more butt-kickin’s before I capitulated. It was a lot of fun seeing how talented some of those young guns are, hats off to them.

Some of the younger guys want to set up some form of a PRS (Pre-Retired Shooters?) match on my range. I told them sure go for it while I watch. Actually the range is set up where there isn't a lot of room to move around. Maybe 50 yards. You have to give the "kids" their fun time or there won't be anyone left to shoot in 20 years.

Competition is fun and entertaining but we all have our limitations. Carroll Shelby, I think, once quipped "it's not how fast you can go, it's how fast you can afford to go" or something like that.

Just shooting is a great sport and some are not able to do that. If PRS is what you like then good for you. The way I look at it every day I can manage to be at the range and shoot is a good one. I just try to do the best I can with what I've got to work with. Life places challenges on all of us, just don't let it get you down.

i dabbled in PRS shooting while the CMP and NRA were busy screwing up Highpower and Long Range at Camp Perry and Atterbury. It’s a fun game. It’s slightly more fun if you get lucky.
Eventually I found that it’s anything but relaxing. Don’t plan on a leisurely day at the range. It is also anything but precise. When every inch of a 4 MOA piece of steel is peppered by a shooter, and he gets the same score as a guy that shoots a 1MOA group on that same piece of steel, I have difficulty calling it precise. With traditionally scored bullseye sports, you get what you shot and nothing more or less.

That said, PRS is growing like crazy. For the good rifle builders and component/ammo suppliers it’s been a boom. Shooters can’t spend their money fast enough, and there is no end in sight for the attempted buying of points and match wins. The wiser businessmen will capitalize on it and hopefully earn a fortune.

If we could set up a PRS type shooting, setup more like playing a round of golf....
Shoot from differeft positions, scoring hits.
Then leasurely walk or golf cart to next stage..
I'd be in for that! :D

If i wanted to drag a bummy for a certain distance, and run to the next stage to shoot, i'd have joined Marine Corps Sniper training.
That's called Sporting Clays.........Minus the different positions...........;)

PRS is made for mature, fully filled out gentlemen. If you'll notice in the one photo we have a grey haired fellow whose frame completely fills the space between himself and the firing point. We'll call this a Built-In Stabilizing System. This contributes to a secure and confortable posture. Now in the other phote we see a younger man who is not as fully developed having to shoot in a position that many mature fellows can no longer achieve, and probably wouldn't want to.

Have I sold it? lol
Great perspective!! I’m going to use that! My “paunch”, “beer belly”, “flab” will now and forever be referred to as my necessary “middle shooting rest”!!!

I am finding it easier than it should be to give up my good stuff, The more I have parted with my TOYS lately the less painful the next few days are, These days it does not take as long to forget them, Until I read one of these reminders, Thanks joshb.....
