Quarter Bore Resurgence

Been watching this thread. Reamer should be here any day. Ive had 135s for about a month... barrels and action waiting.....

Going for 25 SLR, since i shoot 6 SLR already.... wish me luck!
Good luck. I thought I was a little ahead of the game but no word yet on my build. Gun smith still has the barrel. Hoping to hear it's done very soon. Deer season is coming fast.

I'm supposedly getting my barrel today.
Mock up & send out to get stock made.
Wishing now that i had gone with a faster twist than the standard 1:10.

Waiting on 2 bags of 120gr Partitions from Shooters Pro Shop for the 257 Roberts AI.

Still searching for 110gr Sierra Tipped GameKings, 115gr Nosler Ballistic Tips, and 115gr Berger VLDs.

Those 120 NPs will be excellent game bullets for sure. Not for the range of the 110/115 low drags but out to 400-500 yards, they'll be fine.

Barrel showed up yesterday, finally!
Mock together today, & set up trigger.
Then off to get the stock built.
Getting anxious now!

Just found out we have an early private land only antlerless deer season opening on sept 4. Might get a early chance to test out the 110 sierra gamechangers

New bullets are often like fishing lures.....designed to catch the fishermen and hunters. My brief venture into the .25 world was about 10 years ago when I bought a Ruger #1 Mannlicher in .257 Roberts. Pretty gun. Killed 3 bucks in 4 years with Sierra 117 Pro Hunters. All shot at the top of the front leg, all down in 5 to 25 yards. If it ain't broke, don't get to excited about fixing it.Ken, hope your hands are healing well.

Looks like the price has come down on these (from$305 to $275):

Cheaper yet @ BlueCollarReloading (5 100-count boxes are slightly cheaper than the 500-count box):

I hear you. I feel the same way about the .30-06 and .308
The 06 & 308 have earned their reputation. They didn't just show up and jump to the front of the pack the same year they arrived. Nothing against the 6.5 CM but sorry that's just premature ejaculation. It can't walk where either on of the others plowed.

I am going the other direction for my short range hunting:

25/204 about the same as a 25 Kimber

85's at 3000
100's at 2850

Now to find some:

85g Speer btsp
85g Sierra btsp
85g Sierra spt
85g Nosler partitions

another good one is the 90 gr Sierra HPBT Gameking. Kind of the big brother to the 6 mm 85 gr HPBT

Finally got some 115gr Ballistic Tips!
Found at a not so local gun shop.
Picked up more 120gr Partition while i was there and they had them.

257 Kimber is on my short list. Thinking a mini Mauser action for that.

All these overbore ideas brings
to mind Browning had to use chrome to make WSSM barrels last. Maybe that doesn't matter in this forum but it did show that we get shortchanged on factory barrels. It is possible for a chrome lined and usefully accurate factory barrel to be produced and sold at a normal price.

If you're a handloader who enjoys lots of extra steps in brass prep, 25 WSSM may be worth considering.

Agreed. However AFAIK I am limited to Win. and RP brass. Also, of note is that the industry max pressure for the 250 Savage is set at 45k CUP in deference to lever action rifles. Quite sure the Creedmoor exceeds that by quite bit. The Creedmoor wasn't around when I built the .250 AI.
I use 22-250 brass in my 250AI, which is rated at 63,000 psi and will do anything the CM will do and stretch brass less. I'm not lagging far behind my 257AI. I also believe Hornady modified the 250AI with a 30 degree shoulder and marketed it as a CM. After all, they took the RCM case which flopped, necked it to 6.5 and called it a PRC and it took off
