Quarter Bore Resurgence

Received my X-Caliber barrel in 25 Creed. yesterday...28" heavy, 7" twist; sure is perdy! Still looking for reloading data but have put together some starter loads with the 134 ELDM and RL26, StaBALL 6.5, SUPERformance, and RE17.. Will install the barrel, grab the 0.473"-face bolt, and locate the lands this WE and get to Ben Avery Tuesday morn. with my 'new' rifle and new Oehler 35P chronograf.

Still looking for dies.. I have new 6mmCM Alpha cases, a 25-cal. neck-expander, and a 25WSSM seater die, and those will get me started, but I'll need a 25CM resizing die to reuse any of those cases.. Ideas?

What twist ? How do you like the Harrell's muzzle brake ?

Hal
1:10. The Harrel's brake does its job well. Honestly, I've never tried a different brand but, I can shoot 20 rounds off the bench without any "ill" effects.

Just get a 6 or 6.5 creed Redding bushing die, and the correct bushing and be done with it. Thats my plan when mine is built..
Wondering about the WSSM seater die doing a good job with that smaller case ??

Is this a full-length resizing die with a neck bushing? And what size bushing? Right now I don't know the ID of the neck portion of the chamber.. I'll soon have some fired cases to measure.

I've never used a bushing die in 60 years of reloading.

I don't know about other brands but Redding makes both a bushing FL sizing die as well as a bushing neck size only die. If you decide to get one or the other you'll want to get the one for a 6.5 Creed, not 6 Creed. A 6CM die will likely have a smaller hole where it transitions into the bushing so a 6.5CM bushing die is the one you'll want.

Measure the neck diameter of a loaded round then subtract whatever amount of neck tension you want to use and that'll be the size bushing you get. Bushings aren't that expensive so I always get 1-2 sizes above and below the size you think you'll use.

I use a Hornady 6.5 Creed die with a 279 bushing for Alpha 25 Creed cases. If I use Lapua 6.5 creed cases
necked down to 25 I use a .281 bushing. So you need to measure the cases you have to get the correct
measurement.

Some times they are what you need to save the day. I had to open the bushing ledge on my 6.5x55 Swede Redding full length bushing die so I could use a 25 caliber bushing in it, and that didn't seem to be a problem. If you end up with one that needs opened up, send it to me, all it will cost you is postage for the ride to me......

Oct. 21 update.. Installed the 25CM barrel tonite; had to wait for the HS gages; used Forster GO and NO-GO gages plus two different-brand 6mm factory cartridges; all work correctly and feel fine.. (Of course I did NOT fire the 6mm cartridges in my 25-cal. barrel.) Barrel was very clean from the factory.. Will get to Ben Avery probably Tuesday.

UPDATE--buying a car tomorrow in LA (I live in Phoenix) so Ben and I will have to wait a day or 2.

In RE: sierra 117 gr "Tournament Master". TM is on the outside of the box. Are they old boxes? or are they Gamekings/ or both? anyone happen to own or buy rifle bullets/Sierra w Tournament Master on box? I have some incoming and I think they are gamekings.

I finally got into my once fired brass with my 25PRC. The load I worked up with new brass tightened up with the once fired. This load will work very well for a hunting rifle.

And you're slinging the 135 Berger or ?? That looks like it's shooting pretty good for you and those are very good velocities for a 25-6.5PRC out of a 21in barrel. If you take #5 out and not only is that a damn nice group but outstanding single digit ES too.

My 257 Ackley Imp is my all time favorite. This year as a tribute to a recently deceased friend, I barreled up a 6mm Rem AI. He loved the 6mm Rem. First deer taken is dedicated to him. We hunted together in our teens and 20's until the military took us in different directions.
