With Remington gone -- what "budget" action?

There is no doubt that Savage builds a very accurate factory gun
and there have been lots of custom rifles that have been built on Savage actions, but you will have to ask yourself, do I want to date
or marry an ugly girl????
Pretty is as pretty does.

Well, if it is a Rem action you want you also have the Bergra. Copy of the Rem 700.
However the retail prices for their guns are more than a Remington 700.

I have 2 Savage actions that have not given me any issues after I rebarreled them for different calibers. Yes the Accutrigger is ok, but a Timny trigger really helped them both.

And yes I also know if the firing pin hole is too big on some bolts and will cause cratering or piercing.

While I agree the Tikka is a very well built action and would be worthy of almost any custom build I must be missing something. Most basic Tikka T3 rifles I see are in the upper $700 price range to start.
When many bought base 700's for $400 or less to scavenge the action I see no way the Tikka can be called "budget" when there are some very nice custom actions out there within striking distance of a Tikka donor.

I have bought used Tikka’s for $5-700. Count in the value of the factory trigger. I don’t think they need replacing. I do buy the Yo-Dave spring, tho. Also figure the value of the side bolt release.
I really think people will just start looking for old Remingtons. The price will probably go up, tho.

I think it was only in stock for their first/initial run. After it's changed for prefits, I'd be interested in one, if it's well made.
I spoke with Mack bros about their action availability. They are doing production runs of them. If you speak with them, they can add you to the distribution list to notify when they are available. I did this and got an email with 2 weeks for a .308 bolt face being available, first come first serve.

I bought a creed last year for 470$, they were easily found through at least November for 550. Shop drop shippers and online stores, not Cabelas.

you can probably scavenge the stock and barrel for 100$ and the trigger doesn’t suck, actually it’s dang good when adjusted.

400-500$ action AND trigger that doesn’t usually need near as much work to make straight it seems(if any), I think that’s pretty budget friendly

Not so fast. This from the new owners of the facilities who will likely pay for use of the name, from another company,""Big Green,” as we like to call it, will not be the same, and it may be less than big going forward, but it appears that it has a future, one that will be determined by its leadership and, most of all, by its workers. They will be judged by the guns they make, with the Model 700, Model 870, Model 1100, Model 11-87 and R1 1911 likely leading the recovery of this great name in American guns."
