Super.Super overrated? Varget might not be the best powder for a specific rifle, but it shoots good in rifles from .223 to .308 with heavy or light bullets.

I got 10 pounds of it that they replaced for the 4166, I’m going to try it in the straight 6BR with the heavies, fingers crossed. Some people may think I meant varget was super overrated in the BRA.
I meant across the board. It’s just a dirty, mid burn rate powder ………..that you can find anywhere, so it got popular.
I’m sure there’s some barrels if works great in. In fact, I think I had one… but it’s a last resort for me before declaring one a tomato stake.
With Vihtavuori having multiple powders surrounding it on the burn chart, I just can’t see why anyone would pursue Varget in this day and age.
Should work fine with 105's around 30 grs. ,give or take a couple tenths.I got 10 pounds of it that they replaced for the 4166, I’m going to try it in the straight 6BR with the heavies, fingers crossed.
Yea, lots of 6BR guys say if it won't shoot 105 gr. bullet with 30 gr. Varget something must be wrong.Should work fine with 105's around 30 grs. ,give or take a couple tenths.

Not my experience at all. In my 6 Dashers, Varget is always the powder to beat. So far anyways. Being virtually inert to temperature changes is a huge plus for me in a hunting rifle. Not sure how VV140 is as far as temperature/pressure is concerned. At some point, Hodgedon will make me switch to VV powders, to get away from being gouged at the checkout line. We are getting close! Lol.Some people may think I meant varget was super overrated in the BRA.

the read out says 7 shots at 1.28 moa, is that correct ?
Per this info I would say correct or very close to it.the read out says 7 shots at 1.28 moa, is that correct ?
N140 is definitely NOT interchangeable with Varget. N150 is much closer. N140 is faster.I have shot 6bra... 12 years now? Something like that... Before that I shot 6br for 25. Also been shooting the 22bra for 5-6 years now.
To say Varget doesn't work in 6bra but is a standard GO TO load in 6br (and is over rated), is just... well... misinformed...
Tanner Burrows just set a record this weekend (perfect 25x) in Oklahoma shooting 6bra/Berger 108/N150 (if anyone wanted to know)---I wouldn't want to be "off topic".
N140 is essentially the doppleganger for Varget and loads are basically interchangeable. I would say there are a ton of guys shooting N140 and N150 in their 6br/bra rifles these days and doing quite well.
So, with Vihtavuori at $300 a jug to the house and Varget at closer to 460, what word would you use to describe Varget?
