Why isn’t Varget ideal for 6BRA?

I've ran 16 lbs of H4350 through both mine and my son's 6bra with 107 SMK with fantastic numbers. Albeit slower than what a lot of shooters want, around 2800 fps, it was for PRS comps though, speed there doesn't matter much.

N140 is definitely NOT interchangeable with Varget. N150 is much closer. N140 is faster.

Curious, why didn’t Tanner set that record with Varget? Was he perhaps…. misinformed like myself?

I don’t cash checks from ANYBODY but I can tell you that with very few exceptions, Vihtavuori just makes better powder.

So, with Vihtavuori at $300 a jug to the house and Varget at closer to 460, what word would you use to describe Varget?

If I were going to pay Hodgdon prices, it would be for H4895, which has the pedigree to justify its price tag- in the BRA.
To offer a couple anecdotes about N140/Varget burn rates… in my Palma guns the powder charge that I usually land on for a 155gr bullet is 46.0 gr, give or take 0.5gr. If I use Varget or N140 the powder charge needed will always end up in this window.
With barrel differences, powder lot differences, primer lot differences, etc, this is a strong justification that the two powders have the same/similar burn rate.

My first 6BR barrel shoots well with 29.0gr N140/108gr Berg but 30gr was starting to leave a slight ejector smear. I am using small magnum primers so maybe this has an impact in some way? Still pretty close to the 30gr Varget standard with all the other variables taken into account.

That low node h4350 load does shoot incredibly well. 30.5 grains if I recall.

Yes.

I'm going to test the R16 in the 22bra for our 62 eldvt pdog load. I want to find something that is immune to changing from our elevation to Colorado elevation. Something that is pretty much stupid and can't go over pressure.
I need a drop tube but it’s really temp stable and consistent.
