Whidden 6BRX die vs Custom 6BRX die

Hi Guys
is there much difference between the Whidden 6BRX vs their Custom dies besides the price,
are the custom dies that much better or will the other dies be just as good ??
or should i just use my 6BR dies and a 243 body die
man which way to go, its doing my head in
cheers

I have a Whidden 6BRX full length bushing die. I also have several full custom dies of various calibers and the Whidden is as good as it gets. I do not work for John and have nothing to gain, but the quality and service is top drawer.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

problem with 6 BR and body die is, when the brass work hardens from the shoulder back towards the base you bump it back and it expands the shoulder[.460 dimension]
run it thru the body die , it shrinks the shoulder but pushes the length back where it was
back and forth you go
get the whidden die and be done with it

The reason for the price difference is because the custom die will be a closer match to your fired brass dimensions without either oversizing or undersizing of the entire case.. Truth of the matter is this , you don't need an expensive die for it to be a close match to your particular chamber (fired brass)... Also keep in mind that sending a die maker your reamer print does not guarantee a proper fit to your fired cases , a lot can happen from print design to finished product.

Send them some cases that have been 3x fired in your chamber and be glad you got the custom die.

cheers guys , i will def get a whidden but still deciding between a custom or the BRX bushing die set as i sort of need one soon , my gun should be finished very soon (just waiting for stock to turn up)

I've never asked them because I don't shoot one, but I'm pretty sure Harrell's will make a die for anything based on the BR cartridge. They also do PPC and X47 Lapua cases.

Stu go with either of the Whidden dies it will be better than your current 2 die set up..one pass and your brass is full length-ed and neck sized. Otherwise i would also highly recommend Harrell's, i have one for the 6BR and 6Dasher they are excellent quality and as close to a custom die as you can get of the shelf.
The BRX has same shoulder angle as straight BR so i would think the 6BR Harrell's die would work..Someone correct me if Im wrong?, thats one advantage of going the BRX if you have a 6BR already you can use same dies.

Cheers Rushty

I started out with a BR FL die but after a few firings the section of the case not being sized had grown to the point where heavy bolt closing and extraction became an issue. At that point I started using a 243 FL die along with the BR FL die which helped some but more of a band-aid as neither die was a very true representation of the chamber. Sent three fired cases to Harrell's and a week later I had their BRX FL bushing die in hand and couldn't be happier. Another plus I see from the Harrell die is their die sizes further down into the case wed than any other die I have ever used. This is with both their Dasher and BRX dies I use.
