Forster CO AX and 6BRA FL problems

I ordered 3x BRA Dies from Harrell’s, Comagutsas (OP) being one of them, the other two size perfectly but we are using RockChucker Presses.

I just had the same problem with a dasher die.Sent it back to forester and had it shortened and the neck honed. It works perfect now. Also using a coax.

yeah went around to rusty's and my die worked fine in his rock chucker. we actually measured both his and my die .. mine is .003 shorter and works better in his press than his die haha
but lucky I didn' get his die as it would of been worse in the co ax.. only need to cut about .003 off my die..
also our chambers are only. 0005 different we worked out
cheers everyone for the help

That has nothing to do with the die not sizing, His chamber made a little shorter, or the die maybe longer or the wrong die. You just cut a little off if it is long, no big deal.......... jim
Was quick and easy sizing the brass to where it needed to be, only thing we changed was the press...
Chambers are cut with same reamer there’s .0005”difference in fired cases between them.

So apparently it needs adjusted, .0005 is good in the same gun but I would guess it is in an other one. I would never go back to a rock chucker having a coax press I had an A2 it was head and shoulders better. than a rock chucker, it isn't the press. some small difference some where, or a little more than one place...... jim

So what does it measure with the stub in a fired case and what does it measure with the stub when you size it ? Are you down tight on the shell plate? you surely moved the lock ring for the co ax press...... jim

Can’t comment either way on the Co-Ax I’ve never used or owned one, but maybe I should if it’s better than a RC..
Just know Comagutsa bought his die and brass around and we sized his brass to where it needed to be on the RC following standard Die set up procedures, there are obviously some differences somewhere between the two set ups. My BRA Die is .0035” longer than Comagutsas and still sizes my brass fine in RC which brings me to the conclusion that the RC has some extra tollerences somewhere, I’d hazard a gues that it’s in the shell holder set up of the Co-Ax!!

Speaking generally, Jim is right. Once the die and shell holder meet, there is no more that can be done, regardless of press brand or type. But, you probably hit the nail on the head about your shell holder vs his shell holder. Just trim some off of the bottom of the die...problem solved. This does seem to be a common issue with different dies and 6 BRA chambers. I've seen many threads on this topic and a 6 BRA. It can be a die, shell holder or chamber problem..or all of the above, too. But, if the die and shell holder meet, it's not a press problem.

Just so you are not the only one that has this challenge. I also experienced this exact finding with my Co-Ax press.

I first ordered a Harrel D3 with 80k trimmed off the bottom. With shell holder touching the case jaws or even just barely cam over I’m just shy of about 2k from correctly bumping the shoulder. Second option was to order a Forster die with honed neck sized correctly. I may have went too far when I requested a 90k short dasher die. Still same issue. Now about 1k with touching the shell holder.

So back to my Old Rock Chucker. I’m using my Harrel with no issues. So long story short I have not solved the Co-Ax. But wanted to let you know I had the same findings.

I have had some Harrell's BRA dies sent to me for this issue. I measured the dies using a depth mic and HS gauge. They were spot on to what they should have been. I took off another .010" for the guys and it worked. So maybe ordering .090" off may be the way to go with the coax?

The thickness of the top of the shell holder to the bottom is the issue you can get a set up for a coax to take regular shell holders, if you don't want to take anything off the bottom of the die. Myself I will take it off the bottom of the die. jim

I would bet there is enough difference in shell holders to get the same results , I turned all of mine down to get them flat, measure them they vary brand and they vary with in the brand. The sliding jaws on a co ax may need a little more room than a standard shell holder....... so you cut the die off...... jim

I just measured different shell holders .014 difference in the ones I have, .003 more on the shell plate on the coax than the lowest shell holder and .011 less than the highest....... cut the bottom off the die....... jim

I have 4 bra barrels and have been using the Harrels die with .080 off. I use a Redding D frame press. Over the past 5 or 6 years I have been using the Redding Competition shell holders (+.010 to +.002) to get the HS I want with all cases. With one of the bra barrels I have to use a thinned standard shell holder with a "HARD" cam over to get the HS right. I too agree that we should be taking between .085 and .090 off the bottom of the Harrels. I really like the Redding comp shell holders. You can use them with a Forester press with an adaptor. I have one also, but prefer to use the standard D frame press.

My Forster honed die with .090 cut off will not size enough to have a friction free bolt close on my CO-AX press. It was about 1-2k shy with a slight cam over. The harrel with .080 removed gave the same results of about 1-2k shy of friction free bolt close. I was going to send my Forster die and some fired cases back to Forster to see about correcting. I have not been in a huge hurry as I have been using the Rock Chucker for so long and the little in-Fab auto shell kicker gives me an extra hand to resize my cases. and what i'm using is working so well, i fear change ;)
