Which tuner for a 22lr

Oh, I think you know about them Lee to be fair & yes, I've heard you & others mention being on top of the exit for quite some time. Why I never applied it I have no idea other than as mentioned, I'm stubborn I guess. That & its real easy to see those nice groups at the wrong setting & settle on them.
Oddly enough I've had a little success shooting the "wrong" settings perhaps over the years, but you definitely want to be on top, thats for sure.

Keith
Keith, I know logically smallest is the best but consistency is better. or is it predictability.

Lee

Thanks Doc, never heard that other than Lee has always mentioned screwing his in past the 0 setting. Admittedly, I started at 150 & worked out & only saw the wave's 2 tops. I like the latter 188 setting initially the best but found 185 to be better. I may revisit it yet again, out of curiosity on a lowest setting but am pretty happy where I'm at with this one. Its the most consistent heavy rifle I've ever had thats allowed me to accomplish a goal I've had of shooting 3000 in UL, but more importantly when I have traveled elsewhere being Salem, NY & Luray I haven't wanted to touch the tuner at all. That has never happened especially indoors. Also, although I don't have a large sample size it doesn't seem to be too ammo fussy, within reason.

The turbo i just sold is at 149 and the Stiller i have is at 146

this target was shot in the first match of the year and out of the last two matches i have shot, i have only dropped one point.. and that one was to shear stupidity..
this target was shot with the Stiller, and some Lapua that most ppl don't or won't use.. lucky.. i have four cases of it.

Pistol King? I guess that because I have had some good lots of it that would outshoot random lots of Center X.

Lee,
To answer your question first, I shot the same setting for a long time, but then I found one that worked better. The info below is for a modified by Lee Harrell tuner on a Vudoo with their Kukri barrel.

I went below the first 0 to the point where I was as far in as it would go and called these first numbers before the 0 minus numbers as in -5, -10 etc. That doesn't mean say O minus 10 marks, it means the number 10 but before the first 0. In my case, -15 was best and still is after more than 2 and a half years.

Thats awesome to hear Joe, that it worked with a 20" barrel and even got better after the initial 35 setting.
I still have to try a 10/22 and see if it will work with a light tuner. the one time I had someone try it didn't make a difference. IMO it has to do with the reciprocating bolt killing any recoil

good to hear from you.

I have a .90" (actually .9125" according to my cheap digital calipers) Shilen Ratchet RO contour barrel unthreaded and 26" long......what would be the right tuner for it? A standard Harrel?

Yes, call Harrells with your dimensions and they will contour the tuner to fit.

I've got probably 1,000 rounds through it now. It shoots 4 lots of R-50 (out of 10) in the low to mid .5"s at 100 yards in an indoor tunnel. It shoots .317" at 50 yards (outdoors) and I'd like it to do better at 50 yards. I just ordered another box each of the 2 best lots of R-50, plus one more to re-shoot. I also have Eley Tenex, Eley Match, SK Long Range, SK Pistol Match, SK Rifle Match and Lapua Long Range coming to try. If any of these show promise I'll try a number of lots.

I have Norma TAC 22 that did .297" (5x5) at 50. .750" at 100. Go figure. $4.30 a box

I think there ought to be something that will do .2"s at 50 and .5"s at 100, right?

This Shilen barrel seems to like everything to some degree

I'm thinking that since this barrel and contour is used a lot in rimfire Bench rest a tuner may help

Ok I understand now, I thought you were talking about a new barrel. this is the 360 you mentioned before. a standard Harrell should work fine. just take the most consistent ammo you have to tune with.

Made my own !
Designed, 3D printed, some 9mm bullets to add weight.
Seems to works, but I'll need some indoor shooting to be sure (generally too much wind at my usual range).

I‘ve used one of Eric Uptagraff’s on my prone rifle and been pleased. I don’t find a need to do a great deal of adjusting with it for most (better) grades of ammo.

Kevin, that sir was a good day..

Great shooting, we should all have such days!!

I think that's what keeps me coming back to this sport after all these years - those matches or seasons where you find something really special. When this antiquated cartridge works, it really works!

All the very best to you, and again - great shooting!
