When is the gun you purchased yours?

The only way I sell firearms anymore is "Face to Face", and cash only. Yes, I know this eliminates a lot of potential buyers but it also eliminates a lot of potential headaches.

I am real close to only buying them that way! or unless someone has the positive feedback to back it up. I know we all have to start somewhere, but I just got ripped for $1500 last week and I am REALLY not happy about it.

Havig been in the shipping business for part of my life, FOB - Free On Board, comes with some responsibiliiies even though limited ones, but I have never seen a private sale on any of the forums I am on quote there prices as FOB. Commercial yes, but most individuals have no clue with it really means.

Dave, I posted here because I could not find the other and assumed (I know what that means) that somehow I did not get it posted. Not trolling for differing answers.

When I return someone's firearm I ask them how much insurance they want on their firearm, I purchase that amount and send a copy of the receipt with tracking numbers visable so they can keep up with the whereabouts of their firearm.
I have sold a few rifles on the internet and advertised that the shipping would be at the buyers expense and insured for the amount of the sale.

One individual in Wisconsin bought a rifle from me and had to pay a local ffl a big fee to transfer it to him when he went to pick up his rifle there was some scuffs that wasn't seen in the pictures. The receiving ffl had disposed of the box and didn't own up to any mishandling so the buyer came to me.
I went to my local post office and was told to send the buyer a copy of the receipt with tracking numbers and let them file the claim at their local post office. I don't know how much refinishing the united states postal service paid for but the buyer let me know it had been taken care of.
From my experience it is the buyer who has to file the claim and a good seller needs to take the time to deal with the carrier to see to it his customer gets taken care of.

Any shipment by any means(FedX/UPS/USPS/Freight Forwarder etc) in the world is the responsibility of the shipper not the receiver.

If company A ships company B a liquid & it spills or leaks in transit-
company A "the shipper" is responsible for clean-up.

Not the way I've ever experienced it.

I bought a shotgun a few years back, and it arrived with a broken stock. UPS didn't want to hear anything from me or the receiving FFL, it was ALL on the seller/shipper to make the claim and do all of the legwork.

UPS came out to the FFL's place to look at it, but it was definitely the seller that had to do everything on that one.

BTW.... UPS ended up laying out their standard "insufficient packaging" line, and denied the claim (SURPRISE!! Not... ::) ).

I like Cabela's policy. You find a firearm on the web that is at anyone of their stores and for $25.00 they ship it to the store of your choice and you can inspect it and decide. Last year a bought a 4 Barrel Skeet Set that way. It was not only worth risking loosing the $25.00 if I did not like it, but I was also able to negotiate the price face-to-face (they did come down) and take it home with me.

As a buyer, I don't consider it mine until its in my hands. As a seller, I expect buyers feel the same way. If its cheap, ill let it go and hope for the best. If its a high dollar item, Ill insure it myself to make sure I'm not out hundreds of dollars if something does happen. I've been buying and selling shooting stuff for about 6 years and have shipped through UPS, FedEx and USPS with only 1 issue (recent box of brass was purchased by me and never showed up. Shipper sent me a replacement and filed a claim for the lost one).
