I always insure my packages with USPS, solely to have in case they lose it. I use to trade in high end chef knives from all over the world, mostly Japanese. I sent one to Texas one time, a very expensive knife. It didn’t show up. The buyer started working things on his end, me on my end. We raised enough hell that the knife was found at the last facility shown on the tracking. One employee said he found fallen behind his desk. That was a lie, the knife had been opened and used but it was recovered and restored to pristine condition. This was a three day process. My local Post Master is fantastic, she knew how to push buttons. She said I would have received a refund but we will never know.
I do know I’ve had two packages that were insured show up damaged, no funds were recovered and in both cases it was plain to see the packages had been abused.
Sometimes I wonder if you insure a package if your highlighting it for theives, nothing worse than a thief or a liar.
