I only vote for the candidates nominated by member petition. You do not have to vote for 25 spots, just can't vote for more than 25.OK I am a life member of the NRA and just got my copy of American Rifleman magazine complete with the NRA 2024 ballot. It wasn’t so much the page 12 farewell or the dear NRA voting member letter signed by King Wayne that pissed me off (Although it did strike a very sour note). What really bothered me was that as best I could count 17 out of the 34 names on the ballot are people who are currently on the board, and we the ”voting” members must select 25. So this means that a significant number of board members who did nothing to control King Wayne will still be on the board. I suppose the proposed new “Chief Compliance Officer” position is supposed to make everything OK and prevent a reoccurrence of King Wayne. The problem is this position is a single person appointed by the board, which will still contains a significant number of leftovers from King Wayne’s court. I was hoping for a clean sweep but I guess that’s too much to expect. Well for me it’s not good enough and it looks like it will be a long time before the NRA sees another dime of my money. As DShortt said in #20 above it’s about time that the gun ranges and gun clubs wised up and didn’t require NRA membership. Make the NRA clean house and earn the respect of the shooting community.
The start of my concern with the NRA is when they tried to scuttle the Heller case. This is when I became concerned it was more about money flow.Despite his shortcomings, the NRA did a lot for gun rights and gun owners during the last 45 years.
I agree with most of your statement. I assume you are not a member or you would have the answers to what lawsuits are files. The statement about more money out of member pockets is weak statement that can be used in any discussion. I only give money to NRA depending on the situation and only if I choose to. All of the marketing I receive from NRA doesn’t get one more penny from my pocket. Those alerts are marketing materials designed to get more money out of your wallet. Now if they used that money to file lawsuits we would not have the troubles that CA, WA, NY, MA, IL, DC and other states and territories face. But the money went to fund lavish lifestyles, foreign and domestic hunting trips, banquets, domestic and foreign travel for Wayne, the board members and their families and the laws in the states continue to be passed without opposition. Of the millions that the NRA has taken in, the blue states should be up to their eyeballs in lawsuits. The courts should be clogged with them and damages should be awarded when the cases are won. 2nd Amendment Foundation does file lawsuits.
Thanks!Jeff Knox has been a watchdog on the NRA for years. His Hard Corps is worth reading for this board election.
I am a member of the NRA. Have been for the last decade since I shoot F Class and they are the keepers of record. I only go year to year though and I give them no additional money in spite of constant spam via snail mail, email and phone calls trying to get more money from me. They spend more trying to pry open my wallet than they get from me for my membership. They did that in years past and I abandoned my membership because of it only coming back due to competition and shooting in registered matches. The reason I am so pissed at them is that I am a member and they stole from me and defrauded me. They did the same to you and every member of the NRA. Every NRA member should be livid and demand a wholesale replacement of the board.I agree with most of your statement. You are completely wrong about laws being passed without opposition. They have been very active here in Tennessee over the years. As far as the states that were referred to, nothing could have saved those states having the population they do. With the migration to the southeastern states, from those states, I fear that it will not be long before we are in the same situation.
Not to mention the cost of all those mailings.I am a member of the NRA. Have been for the last decade since I shoot F Class and they are the keepers of record. As far as fighting for 2A rights, they do next to nothing. They lobby (schmooze that is), file an occasional lawsuit when they are forced into a corner but the majority of the money you give them has been spent to fund lavish lifestyles.
I do believe the jury is still in deliberations. Closing arguments endedNo mention of when he will be returning all the money he stole!
Yes, saw this today in the NY Times (a paper most on here would probably dislike):"WAYNE FOUND LIABLE" Hitting the news outlets.....
Yeah, great Letita James gets to claim a victory. The fine goes to NY. So that .... ah.... person can fund even more lawsuits."WAYNE FOUND LIABLE" Hitting the news outlets.....
"But the jury did not find him liable for breaking laws against self-dealing when he secured a post-employment contract with the NRA in a package that the New York Attorney General’s Office valued at over $17 million, finding that it was properly approved in advance by the NRA board.""In its verdict, the jury found LaPierre should pay the powerful gun rights group $4.3 million in damages for mismanagement and misspending charitable funds on lavish personal trips, no-show contracts and other questionable expenditures. The panel also found the group’s former CFO Wilson Phillips should pay back $2 million for breaching his fiduciary duties as an executive."
Good, money going back from WLP and Wilson Phillips to the NRA. Though 6M is probably a small portion of the total amount of self enrichment perpetrated over the decades. Hopefully they will cut the cords on WLPs golden parachute as well, one can hope.
