Jury finds NRA & Wayne LaPierre Liable in Civil Trial

americanrifleman.org "NRA Responds To New York Trial Verdict" by NRA Staff

The NRA, BOD et al have basically absolved themselves from all wrong doing in the suit. As I did for WLP's farewell message in Rifleman, I wanted to gag when I read this BS. Whomever is running NRA, from Cotton on down, must think we're all fools.

Well I just received my ballot so who should I vote for? The rank and file voters that aren't engaged in day to day NRA operations haven't a clue as to who to vote for. We just trust them to do what's right. I don't see them as being much different than any big corporation. They're free to waste as much as they want; until they're caught. Are the politicians going to give back the money the NRA donated to them?
I hate to mention it but it's become how American business is conducted these days. Corruption in government goes from the bottom to the top. Federal, State and Local entities are using taxpayer money to visit other countries to see how well they've screwed up so they can bring back idiot ideas to govern us with.
We're condoning the importation of millions of people that can't read and write their own language let alone ours and don't have to. We allow the imprisonment of innocent people just for going to a rally and destroy their lives and hold them without charging them for years. We allow our Congress for Decades to ignore the charges in the Constitution of making a budget and end up with 33+ TRILLION DOLLARS of Debt to saddle our children with. We allow our make believe president to not only ignore the Constitution but ignore the rulings of the Supreme Court. I dunnow perhaps I'm just reading too much Ambrose Bierce these days.

Don't forget all the lawyers, and most of all the judges who trained to be judges as lawyers.
Actually there is no training to be a judge.
You are either appointed or elected. There is no ‘ judge school’ other than having enough money to campaign or enough political contact to be appointed.

Do you know a judge who was not a lawyer? Yes they are just part of the swamp.

Yes.
In certain states, in various judgeships, you do not have to be, or have been, a lawyer.
eg: in NYS you do not have to be a lawyer to be a a judge in a town or village.
Yes, it is a swamp indeed. I’m sure every state has its own set of requirements.

Many edits above. I must’ve been drunk to write the original.

A jury verdict in a high-profile New York trial confirms what the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) contended all along – that it was victimized by certain former vendors and "insiders" who abused the trust placed in them by the Association.
This from NRA American Rifleman Insider email I received this past Sunday.
To me it confirms that even those high level NRA executives and Board Members who may not have participated in fleecing NRA knew it was happening and did nothing. When Col. Oliver North tried to fix it the issue they sided with LaPierre in trying to ruin his reputation and push him as far away from the organization as possible.
When I read the entire article my gut feeling was "we got caught" and scrambled to make it right for the trial.
NRA Responds To New York Trial Verdict
As a Benefactor Life Member this is an appalling situation and is even more so since We all get near daily emails or snail mail from them begging for us to pay more.

So after this sh!$ show has played out what is the outcome? Is Wayne going to jail? Is the NRA going to have to pay money to the state of New York as a fine? Is Wayne going to be fined in the amount he stole? Is he going to be homeless? I am glad he is gone, but i can see that nothing has been made right or fixed, so what was the purpose? OH wait the prosecutor got his/her name in the paper and appeared on TV for months.

As an NRA Life Member, I do not have the option of not renewing my membership. Also aware that it is the largest and best gun rights organization in existence. My wife renews yearly. She was aware of Wayne being a crook as were many others for years. Yet, many renewed knowing much of the money was going to be stolen for personal use.

Why were/are so many members that stupid?

Well the wife thinks she will renew again since Wayne and others are gone. Evidently all the 25 directors we blindly vote for each election have done nothing to stop the embezzlement of funds for years, maybe decades. Now who do we vote for again this year?

What a shame it is so hard to find good people among the good people in the shooting community we are a part of.

It appears to me that no one at the NRA is interested in replacing the board in it's entirely. So unless you're fine knowing the board members who tolerated the situation with Wayne will at least partly remain, the only recourse NRA members have is to discontinue renewals and future contributions. Life members can only refuse future contributions.
If the NRA persists in ignoring the dissatisfaction of it's members they will eventually go broke and cease to exist. And no one is to blame but the NRA.

Right. I thought about that.
If indeed these are ‘public servants’ instead of the fine disappearing in the coffers of NYS ( of wherever) shouldn’t the life members money be returned to them? After all it was a corrupt organization that falsely collected funds, illegally spent by at least this clown, but the board had to ask ‘Where’s the money going?’
I have no dog in this fight at all but I’d be pissed if I were a Life Member or any of their other fancy names for collecting funds.
If you were a yearly member at least you could pull the plug from this corrupt organization.

As a voting member I plan to only cast my vote for candidates who were nominated for election by petition and never for anyone currently on the BOD or nominated by the Nominating Committee. I urge all NRA voting members to do the same. That is the best chance we have of starting to clean up the hot mess the BOD has become.

Agreed. People are blaming LaPierre while either forgetting or ignoring that the BOD is at least equally responsible.

Boltman I love you wanting to save a national tradition, and what was once a national treasure. But do you really think that the very people that allowed this to continue for decades, are going to let their chance at being the next Wayne be lost to something as simple to fix as an election? An election that they are going to be the ones to do the counting due to their position anyway. I hope that the NRA can be fixed and resume the work they started so many years ago, but I am not optimistic.

The board of directors are charged with oversight of the operations but largely they are just yes men for the president of operations of any large company. From what I gather it's a paid tribute to potentates for lending their credentials to an organization with little or no actual hand in running it. They have a salary and the trappings of leadership without actually having to do much outside of attending cocktail parties and such. When something goes awry they all claim three monkey status. I heard nothing, say nothing and spoke to no one. They are culpable in LaPierre's fleecing of the organization in my view.
Perhaps we could benefit from some of our combined knowledge about the directors up for nomination. Somebody around here should or possibly could know them and could shed some insight on who we might consider voting for. Perhaps it's time for a restructuring of the daily operations and responsibility of oversight.
Family squabbles are not unique to the NRA. The NBRSA and other organizations have had their share although I do not think quite as bad as this mess.
