Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

Hi everyone, this is my first go-round with any shooting forum. I am pretty new to reloading (my sons and I bought our first dies and press in February of 2011.) We currently reload .40, 44mag, .223, .243, and .308: all for putting holes in targets in the woods and a few ground squirrels in central OR...

We started thinking about building a bench gun and have been reading a little about the cartridges you guys use. After talking to my friend about what he would use to build a 1000 yd gun, we are now looking at a 6.5-284 (seems to be the favorite, however, I am a little concerned about barrel life.) The 6.5 Lapua looks cool too! Then I go read something about using the 280 Rem AI, then I think thats the one!......

WHo knows what caliber we will finally settle on, but whatever it is, we 100% intend on doing it right and not scrimping.....

I really look forward to bouncing questions off of you guys and hope to have some fun on here as well!

thanks everyone!

Hello all, been lurking here for years but have now signed up! Look forward to learning more particularly about hand loading procedures and whatever else! I shoot mainly .223 , .25-06, .303 and .308.
I'm a farmer in Scotland and am fortunate enough to be able to shoot from my back door out to 1000+ yards!
Thanks for having me !!

hello gang, Craig Davis here from West Lawn Pa.
new to the long range game, working with a Tikka 270wsm, reloading on my own and going to be re-building/re barreling in the near future. will be loading some 165 and 175 gr .277's.
i will be picking the brains of the group to help in starting to build a load for the heavier bullets. currently i am shooting 140gr nosler ballistic tips,on 61 gr of RL19,in win cases, with 215mag primers to get the fire started.
i weigh each bullet and powder charge, true each case and measure every cartridge when complete. as of right now, with factory barrel, i am able to hold half min groups at 400.
i am looking forward to gaining new friends and knowledge.
Craig

Brass Prep

Am a fairly new viewer, and have not posted before.
Have read several articles about Thumler timber cleaning, ss media, recipes for solution, pics of results----all impressive.
I purchased a Hornaday Magnum Sonic Cleaner, used 50% vinegar/dish soap recipe, and had reasonably good results. When wiping primer pockets with Q-tip, I did get some more less visible carbon out. Also, spinning end of clean Q-tip in flash hole yielded more carbon residue than I would have liked to see.
I then final dried brass in regular Dillon vibratory cleaner with corn cob media----seemed like a simple way to dry quickly.
Questions:
1. Does anyone have experience/recommendations with Hornaday?
2. Is Thumler substantially better?
3. Have not seen method for final cleaning of flash holes----any advice? Have already reamed and chamfered with K&S tool before firing. Does anyone make a mini-Q-tip or other means of final cleaning?
Hope my questions are too basic for you experts. Fantastic website.

Hi all. New to the forum and handloading. Have been shooting pistols for a while now and use a little Dillon 550 to produce pistol ammo, but find myself very interested in more "precision rifle" shooting and reloading with a couple old Remington 700s (308 and 300WM) and a nice AR. A while back I was able to score an old grungy RCBS Jr. press at a local show for $20. Got it cleaned up a bit and installed a universal decapping die; all of my rifle brass is deprimed now. More recently picked up a nice lightly used Rock Chucked. Next step I believe is to sort through some brass to get like kind then finish prepping said brass. I look forward gleaning off everyone.

Greetings from Virginia....long time basic reloader and paper puncher here. What a wonderful world of great information here, thank you all!
I have a 10 year old Remington 700 VS in 308 Win that is bone stock, and looking to upgrade it and my loads-currently Reloader 15 over 168 Grain Nosler with the J4 jacket as time and money permit.

another new guy from one of the other shooting forums. Just spent a couple days reading " long range load development @ 100 yards. good stuff.

Hello folks, I've been shooting since I was a little guy. I used to reload shotgun shells until they got so inexpensive it didn't seem worth it. I'm rethinking that these days.

Anyway, I just started reloading 223 & 22-250's. So, I'm looking forward to learning from you all! I've been following as a non-member, but decided to join based on what I was reading.

Thank you all for being such a respectful forum, with good discussions! Hopefully one of these days I can add some value to the conversations.

See you online!

new member: federal way , wa.
has been many years since i have been shooting, grew up hunting: duck , pheasant, deer.
but with school and life has been many years , but now started shooting again:
currently have savage 308 PC model with millet scope: mil dot, and savage 243 axix. both guns are great.

have been reloading all my ammo now for lest 2 years:
proud to say i have not bought any factory rounds for either the 243 or the 308.
it is alot of fun working up loads for both guns.

a: savage 308 PC: found great load:
sierra 168 gr HPBT, AA 2520 44 gr, at 2.864 OAL and she shoots really well: getting 1/2 inch clusters at 100 and 3/8 inch clusters at 200
b: savage 243: axis, still struggling to find good load for it,
100 yards: struggling to get 1 inch clusters: vmax 65 gr, imr 4350

thought i introduce myself.
learnign alot from forum
Khanh :)

Hello, I am in way northern California. I shoot prairie dogs quite a bit and am an old school shooter and reloader. I shoot a .220 Ackley .22/250, .223, .17 Rem., .218 Bee, .22 Hornet, .221 Fireball. I am building a new rifle in .222 and would love a 6 BR next. Have been at this for a while, not a noob. Love helping young guys with their reloading.

FANTASTIC SITE... LOOKING FORWARD TO USING THIS INFORMATION SITE FOR YEARS TO COME. i ALL READY FOUND SOME BULLETS i HAVE BEEN IN SEARCH OF ON OTHER SITES. WITHIN JUST A COUPLE OF DAYS... ENJOY THE ABUNDANCE OF INFORMATION!!!

New old guy. been shooting/reloading since 1972. I don't have a 6mm, just 243 and 308 for now. This is a very interesting and informative forum for anyone interested in in accurate shooting.

I've read a lot of great articles on the main site, and just now got around to joining the forums. I don't shoot as much as I'd like too, with a young family, but I do a little here and there. Reloading...and case prep since it's time consuming have turned into hobbies for me over the years.

I am the new guy on the block. As a new comer to precision shooting i am interested in learning as much as possible. I live in Southeastern Louisiana, near New Orleans. I am going to try my hand at F/TR with a Savage 12 F/TR in .223.

It will be helpful to find some successful load data as a place to start for developing a competitive load for this rifle.

I am looking forward to both learning from the site and to meeting many of you at some matches.

Best regards,

Beau5323

Good day all! New from BC here and fairly new to shooting. Hand load my first 30 rounds last weekend and had some good results with testing.

Savage model 12 223.
Winchester fire formed brass
PCI 400 primers
V-MAX 50gr bullets
H322 powder

Seems to shoot best with 24.5 G so far. 5 shot group at 100 yards

And a 3 shot group at 100 yards.

Looking forward to learning from all on this forum.

Cheers
