Weighing primers the Ingenuity way

How do you determine, if the weight differences are being caused by the priming compound vs other components?
That's a very good question. :) The answer lies in the velocity variance one can see when comparing the lightest to the heaviest within a brick of primers. The variance isn't large, but it detectable as shown in different people's testing, including my own, which all results pretty much line up.

Also, when I look at their numbers and my numbers, a couple of those primer outliers mixed in with, say 50 load rounds, can been seen as a discernable higher SD for those 50 rounds compared to 50 rounds using primers of the same weight. And it's repeatable.

That’s not really necessary, I sort all my primers in ‘gram mode’ and just shoot them in their batches, culling extremes.
It’s been proven at longer range several times that the heaviest have a different point of impact then the lightest.

It's not April 1st.....really?
Not for nothing I was on waiting list, since Dec 22 2023 for this system ( I have 2 of the tricklers) ....and we are showing weighting primers....I'm sorry, I cant believe that makes any difference at all at any level of shooting....time focus on releasing this system....not this !
I finally cancelled my place for the Powder System

That's came up before, and the short answer is at one point someone very, very bored disassembled and ultrasonic cleaned the cups and anvils, and checked the weights of a decent sized sample on a pretty high end scale. The result is this: the vast majority of any variance you see when weighing primers on something like an FX120 is the priming compound. Theoretically, some of it could be attributed to the sealant that some brands glob on there, but still, the major contributor is the priming compound.

I can accept that. For the particular batch and brand tested.
Can't very well compare across multiple brands. Apples and Oranges.

Looks like a good way to have some primers detonate, especially if you get some dust build up. No way would I personally do this. Maybe I am over reacting, but maybe not.

I thought of the same thing! Primers are an explosive and should be treated as such. There have been serious injuries (deaths?) with the mishandling of primers. I would strongly recommend that you do not handle them in this way.

IMO, this is risky the way the primers being tossed around. I can say that it does not take much to ignite. I have ignited a primer by simply digging out the anvil and mixture with a metal pick. Never again.

Every thing is going well until KABOOM!!! When your wife gets you to the ER and they find out what might have to remove or never work again...
