VV temp stability coatings?

Seems like I read somewhere about some new powder coating going on with the newer lots of VV powders, marking them much more temp stable. Looking to pickup some VV135 and VV140 to try in my 6 Dashers. Is this true or did I dream this? Lol. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thanks, Paul

Haven't heard of anything "new" in that regard but it's possible. I think many or all had bismuth added some time back..or whatever it is to reduce copper fouling. Can't say for sure but something changed. Burn rates were "different" and built up the sludge type of black stuff similar to soft carbon fouling. I've heard that it did in fact affect burn rates and they had to be adjusted accordingly when they made that change but who knows. The powders all seem to be back to very near the same burn rates but they did seem to be all over the place for a while there. Maybe Neary knows something about all of this. I can only say what I've seen and been told.

Viht is very loath to blow its trumpet on improvements. Its usual practice is to make a low key announcement only when improvements have been applied to an entire range.

This is the case with anti copper fouling additives, all N100 and 500 series products so treated.

It also applies to temperature sensitivity reduction to N500 grades, Viht confirming all older products have now been treated, and recent additions - N565, N555 and N568 - were temperature stable from their introduction.

Nothing has been said that I've seen or heard of for the N100s to date. It has been suggested by various sources that N150 in particular has been improved during the last few years, and likely some some others too. These views come mainly from users in North America who notice these things much more than those of us shooting in the frigid British Isles, but the company has yet to confirm anything in this respect.

Hi Paul, as Laurie pointed out they have made some changes. Some were made several years ago. It would be a good idea to call Jack or someone with Viht and just ask them about if and when changes to the specific powders you're curious about. I'm sure glad I did. JME. WD

if you look at them with a magnifying glass, they are akin to snowflake in that no two are the same.
It's about weight more than looks.... Goiia pick the right one when you're looking for a number.
I'm wondering how the ingenuity powder drop is gonna behave.

I have had no problems with N-140 and the IP trickler. I'm running the IP trickler with a V3 and V4, and it makes a big improvement in terms of far fewer over-throws.

2016 was when they changed. From my memory.
I know that I have some that was drastically different burn rate wise in that time frame...from 2014-2016. So that's probably about right but they were still working on the formulations. I've been told that bismuth would speed the burn rate up. Not sure, just what I was told.

Several years ago, VV had, a Big "Sale" and Rebates on their Powders ( IIRC ) I bought several pounds of, N-160 ( Pre - Covid start, era ) and I believe that, the New Temp Insensitive Powders came out sometime,..
slightly before, that ??
Maybe,.. 2018 ish, possibly.
I know that, I bought the N-160 for around, $30 to $32 a Pound, which seemed like a good price, but, my labels say NOTHING about, Temp stability, like the New Labels, Do.

My 133 from 2010 is slower than 2022. I had to go up .4. that was on a new barrel. I haven't tried it after 600 rounds. My ppc is shooting so well I'm not gonna mess with it .
Through my testing before the Tack Driver I found the 2022 to be faster than my 2015. I also dropped the load around .4 to get the same level of accuracy.

However, when I got to South Carolina, it had a lot of vertical. I went back to my 30.5 and it shot quite well.

I have not shot my 6PPC since, I need to re evaluate the situation.
