VihtaVuori Powder Discussion

Most of my conversion to VV is complete. Redeveloped loads for 20VT/N120, 6XC,N-140, 22XC/N-140, 338RCM/N-140, 22H/N-105, 223/N-133, 257ai/n-150, 45colt rifle/N-110, 40SW/3n37, 45ACP/N320, and 454/3n38.
Still need to test N-130 in 223 and develop loads in 284Win, 7x57ai, 30 carb, 308, 10mm, and 7.62x39

The V powders were the last to go during the great powderprimer debacle shortage crazy days and 100V

Also shows that recent N140 testing shows a difference compared to using data from before 2015.

The method of using a cooler to determine temp stability with powders has a huge flaw in it.
It's the whole system: The rifle, ambient air temp and density all work together. Colder (denser air) alone makes the bullet drop more. I shoot in very cold and hot environment. Roughly from - 5 f ( - 20 c ) to around 105 f ( 40 c ).
The joy of living in Canada.

Anyhow. Once outside temp gets below 5 f ( - 15 c ) ALL POWDERS DROP LIKE AN ANCHOR.

My experience with VV powders have been great.

VV-N560 Great with medium cartridges (as good or better than Hodgdon Alliant or IMR)

I have other VV powders in which I have not tried yet including VV-N133. Planning to use this with my 6PPC once I begin loading for it.
I use N560 in my 6.5 '06AI and a buddy uses it for his 7mm Rem Mag.

Accuracy good for both rifles. But they are hunters.

When my 6PPC arrives .... I have N133 waiting for it.

Loaded 3 ladder tests for 3 different makes of brass, about 90 rounds, with the N-555 I received yesterday. This powder measures extremely well. I had exactly 2 overthrows of 0.04 with the AT-V4 over the course of the session. I also like the load density of the charges. 555 fills the case well. Now I have to wait till the weekend to get to the range.

Is the PPC a 'tight neck' or standard neck? I used N133 when I owned a SAKO Vixen in 6mm-PPC USA with 68 gr Bergers and laddered to what I considered incredible accuracy. I am not a competitive shooter~!
At one time I owned a custom built 'tight neck' (.262) 6PPC which literally shot 'one- hole' groups. The powder was N133 behind a 62.5gr Watson.
You're going to be well pleased with the N133~!

Loaded some 357 Magnum with VVN 110 today, my log book noted that the load was the best combination of accuracy and recoil.

This thread deserves a bump so……
Rummaging through my powder supply and doing some decision making. 223 and 204, both with 40 grain bullets. Accuracy and speed. I prefer a full case of powder.
I would not be put off if it would work in 17 Remington.

My small varmint cased stuff 17FB and 20VT, using 2200 now. It looks like N120 would be the way to go on that one. I run the lighter bullets in those two.

Need to read Laurie’s links on the first page and catch up on what’s what.

Regarding the 20VT, I haven't been able to get the speed or accuracy with 2200 that others have. For the 2 I have, H4198 works well in one but not as good in the other. RL7 works great in both, and N120 that I tried in one was like magic pixie dust. I found that you need to start about a grain lower and work up. I was easily able to break 3800fps with 32VMAX, but I backed off to mid 3700's. Consistently shoots in the .2's.

Is N530 available any where in the US of A?
A few places have one pounders, that’s the best price I could find for one pounders.
