VihtaVuori Powder Discussion

Odd isn’t it! As a UK shooter with Viht powders being very available I would still choose H4350, H4831sc and RL23 over any offering from Viht, with the exception of N165 in magnums.

Ian, what are you and others using in the 7WSM these days now that H4831sc is banned here?

Hi Laurie, first port of call for the 7/270 WSM is always N165, but the calibre itself isn’t as popular as it used to be.

There’s still a fair amount H4831sc stockpiled by the serious shooters, I’m not sure what everyone else is using. The only three powders that I need these days are RL16, 23 and 26, but typically they are all expensive and out of stock.
I’ve got a bit of N160 so I guess I ought to start experimenting with that in the 7’s.

If you like R26 and can’t get it N565 is quite similar in results in my 7SAUM.

I've never used any of the VV Powders as I have also noticed the high price, that has changed. I have been using Lilgun in a a small wildcat cartridge I designed but with warmer weather there seems to be some temp instability. Has anyone used N110 and is it fairly temp stable?

Great thread with super info!

I’ve enjoyed this. Seen the same thing in the price of powders. Anyone on the fence about trying VV, don’t hold back.
Years ago I bought a used Rem 700 Police in 308 to dabble in long range shooting. Hard to do in VT, with its rolling hills and hayfields. I searched so many loads including Varget, could not get it to shoot under 1 MOA. N140, Lapua brass, and Lapua 167 turned it into a 1/2” shooter! That load also worked in several other 308s.
it was also a little slow but very accurate in my 6.5 Grendel.

I’ve tried a few of the Shooters World powders, so far not impressed. Hoping for a diamond in the rough. Would like to try their Precision powder, but it’s more expensive than Varget.

I'm the opposite, I'm impressed with Shooters World Match rifle in my .223 shooting 53 vmax. It's capable of 2" at 400 yards. I haven't cracked the lid on the Precision yet. Back to VV powders. I haven't loaded the first round yet, but next week I'll be trying some 87 vmax with VV N135. My buddies that are shooting the VV powders are loving the accuracy.

I’ve been using more and more VV powders. Started using more in my rifles for many of the reasons already stated and recently started using more and more in my pistols. The only problem with a thread like this is the demand will go up but that’s ok, that’s what this website is all about, shooters helping shooters.

I keep leaning that way as well. VV 130 133 160 & 165 have my attention right now but I'm sure more will come into play gradually. I have several of the 500 series but have not bothered to try them much at all.

Right now Midsouth has free hazmat on $100 of powder or primers. I just ordered a couple #s of Vit to try as a bunch of RL stuff is totally AWOL.

My experience with VV powders have been great. I use a few of them for my rifles.

VV-N120 Great with small cartridges (as good as Hodgdon Alliant or IMR)
VV-N130 Great with small cartridges (as good as Hodgdon Alliant or IMR)
VV-N135 Great with small cartridges (as good as Hodgdon Alliant or IMR)
VV-N140 Great with small cartridges (as good as Hodgdon Alliant or IMR)
VV-N150 Great with medium cartridges (as good as Hodgdon Alliant or IMR)
VV-N160 Great with medium cartridges (as good or better than Hodgdon Alliant or IMR)
VV-N165 Fantastic with medium cartridges (better than Hodgdon Alliant or IMR)
VV-N560 Great with medium cartridges (as good or better than Hodgdon Alliant or IMR)

I have other VV powders in which I have not tried yet including VV-N133. Planning to use this with my 6PPC once I begin loading for it. This seems to be the go to powder for the bigger portion of the Short Range Bench Rest competitors.
Good info Bill. I've had the vast majority of VV powders for years but never did much with them until, as OP said, they are about the same price or better than Hodgdon. I've recently decided to phas Hodgdon out of my cabinet and have the entire line except N-135 which I will get in a couple weeks. So far, I redeveloped my loads in most of my guns with various VV powders and the results have been excellent. ES numbers have got much better and copper fouling is all but gone. Been selling my Hodgdon powders off. 16# gone in one day and more going soon. I think you will like 133 in the PPC. The 500 series powders are a bit more pricey but no worse than the H extreme line. Working on redeveloping handgun loads this week
