Varget at $49.99/lb Complaint Thread

Hodgdon is doing great for us by raising the prices and keeping it as available as possible

Looking at Gunbroker, the gougers are selling Varget for $70-$100 per pound.

Meanwhile Powder Valley has not raised prices much. An 8 pounder is still about $270.

Hodgdon doesn't want to put their resellers out of business by competing with them, but wants to put the gunbroker price gougers out of business.

So how do they do this? Raise the price on their site to a point about 10% below gunbroker and keep it available.

That will put the gougers out of business.

If we stopped complaining about Hodgdon raising their website prices, then maybe they'd have full availability at lower prices vs the gougers on gunbroker and the gougers would be out of business

There is and has been Varget available in Utah for about six weeks now. A lot of it is $65 to $70 but in the last couple weeks I have seen it and H4350 for $55. Our local shooting classified site has several guys selling it that don't have a store front. They have a lot but the two local Sportsman's don't have any. All CCI primers have been available for months at $100.

I just can't wait for the day when the whining will end.

Varget has been in short supply for as long as I can remember, and it's an expensive powder relative to other powders on the market. With one exception, I stopped doing load development with it after the last panic in 2012 and moved to other powders. Results are just as good and I don't have to pay a premium to get good results.

What do you get with a room full of shooter's?

Makes me chuckle reading this thread, are you all surprised at the price increases when fuel is almost double and when was the last time you paid attention to the price of a pound of bacon? Instead of being pleased that the product is available we rather feel the need to bash the manufacturer selling at MSRP. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but we will not see primers for $40 a brick nor premium powder for $200 an 8 pounder going forward, either pay the piper or hang up them rifles.

I get the ends and pieces when buying bacon.
It's gonna look like $#!+ when I'm done with it anyway!

Without government intervention, the shortages will be caused by companies essentially not believing there has been a long run increase in demand...and therefore they won't increase supply.

We are seeing this with Target and Walmart right now where they have excess inventory. Their stock prices are taking a hit for it.

The main question manufacturers need to ask themselves if they are to increase supply is: are people shooting a lot more or are they just hoarding supplies? Because if it's hoarding, then the hoarders won't be buying in possibly 10 years.

And since they don't seem to be manufacturing more, they think we're a bunch of hoarders

Lol , I can't even afford the gas to drive to the gun range and shoot ammunition I can't find or won't pay a dumb price for.... For me it's time to pull all the guns out and give them a good cleaning and oil them up... Normally takes two days but they will be good for another year.... Guess I will do my reloading stuff also..

Gas prices...lol.... Today I put two gallons of ethanol free gas in my five gallon can to top it off , it's all I will run in small engines anymore.... It was over $17.00..... Then went and filled up my Colorado P/U from half a tank at a store that had cheaper gas and it was $44.00.... Wait till groceries catch up to the rising fuel prices... People are going to poop themselves.... For somebody to have a slogan of Riding with Biden , that's rich because nobody is riding anywhere and I assure you this is only the tipity tip of the iceberg.... Good luck out there everybody... I am in central Texas my friends out of state wish they were paying what we are... They said on the news gas stations now are trying to figure out how to get the pumps to read $10.00 a gallon because they only go to $9.99.... The real comedy is the 29% of Americans who think this is how America should be ran.... Cut your nose off to spite your face and can't admit it was a dumb move is more like it....

No reason on God’s Green Earth for that kind of pricing other than the fact that they can get away with it.

Same reason fuel is so high. As long as the big corporations can do it they will. They're making a fortune.

Hope this doesn't come off as trying to start a hostile discussion, but I used my trusty math assistant and the 8 pound jug comes out to $35.88 a pound, not bad but not great.

$14 and change under the op's complaint thread price. If I needed it that would be a not so great price but would keep me shooting compared to higher prices posted.

Saw it for sale in billings the other day for $32/lb. I have plenty so I left it for the next guy, I did get 2 pounds of h1000 at that price and a pound of unique for $24.

WOW, Hodgdons now has Varget for ”Sale” directly at $49.99 per pound. You can pick it up on their website. For me, my kiester hurts too much from being taken advantage of at that price. No reason on God’s Green Earth for that kind of pricing other than the fact that they can get away with it.

There are other powders that seem to work. The way to see lower prices is to refuse to jump at sucker bait pricing.

Forum Boss: Hodgdon Powder is now SOLD OUT at Hodgdon.com. The $49.99 price was cheaper than most other sellers.

I can see the powder possibly dropping back down after a while - but I think those primer prices won't be retreating much if at all. Why is it that the 'good old days' never seem that good when they are going on?

Good Old Days= 10-20 years before present day or past present day. Kinda like Hindsight....If we were all gifted with it (at the time) we wouldn't be where we are now.
