Varget at $49.99/lb Complaint Thread

In the month of April I bought 2 8 lb jugs of Varget and 2 8lbers of H4350 among several 1 lb jugs of various powders! $369.99 per 8 lb jug with tax $400 and some change, I didn’t like it but I have plenty for a while in those two powders that I use a lot of!… That’s $50 per lb , I paid $59.99 for RL33
How much does a family vacation cost?… weekend trip up the river in your jet boat or any of the many things most people love to do?… me excluded I hate those types of activities!…. So I spend $500 bucks a month shooting….. big deal I don’t drink, smoke or socialize in anyway other than shooting I think I’ll be ok until my income goes away and by then I’ve amassed such a hoard I’ll just pace myself for a while!…

We better get used to $50+ lb. powder and $100/brick primers. I don't see it going down even when/if supply ever gets back to normal.
It can't go down. The covid stimuli rounds under both Trump but especially Biteme to the tune of about 8 trillion sealed the deal. It has effectively devalued the dollar so powder mills and sellers, facing rising delivery and ingredient prices, not to mention wages, are going to adjust their prices and it won't come down short of a major, major recession where demand shrinks precipitously.

WOW, Hodgdons now has Varget for ”Sale” directly at $49.99 per pound. You can pick it up on their website. For me, my kiester hurts too much from being taken advantage of at that price. No reason on God’s Green Earth for that kind of pricing other than the fact that they can get away with it.

There are other powders that seem to work. The way to see lower prices is to refuse to jump at sucker bait pricing.

Forum Boss: Hodgdon Powder is now SOLD OUT at Hodgdon.com. The $49.99 price was cheaper than most other sellers.
well they are the owner, and cannot under price their distribution network. its how business works. what you can take from the price is that it is the CURRENT MSRP OF VARGET...like it or not

Too bad that Hodgdon doesn't fulfill its roll as a wholesaler and just ship the powders to their retailers. Competing with them even at MSRP in this kind of a market just doesn't seem to be good business relations imo.

you are entitled to your opinion, yours and mine do not count in this case. they are doing it

That beats the prices in the comic section, sorry I meant the Classifieds!

same comment regarding Sierra then. I use very few sierra bullet types and none of their matchkings. Their choice.

They certainly went up in price since the last time I purchased some.

I just can't wait for the day when the whining will end.

Varget has been in short supply for as long as I can remember, and it's an expensive powder relative to other powders on the market. With one exception, I stopped doing load development with it after the last panic in 2012 and moved to other powders. Results are just as good and I don't have to pay a premium to get good results.

Makes me chuckle reading this thread, are you all surprised at the price increases when fuel is almost double and when was the last time you paid attention to the price of a pound of bacon? Instead of being pleased that the product is available we rather feel the need to bash the manufacturer selling at MSRP. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but we will not see primers for $40 a brick nor premium powder for $200 an 8 pounder going forward, either pay the piper or hang up them rifles.

There’s so many things I wanna say to a post like this but sometimes it’s best to just keep scrolling!…

I know right?

Maybe forum boss should make a Complaint Forum to kind of coral all the posts. :)

It is like when gas goes up for no reason and the media creates a reason and everyone believes it.

"Oh it was that hurricane in the gulf... That is why gas went up 2 dollars. Hope it will go down soon..."

I'll never let the opinion that my opninon doesn't count keep me from having one. Kinda like someone telling me "my vote doesn't count", sure it does in a fair and honest election.
an opinion is just that, a vote is COUNTED......NO THEY ARE NOT THE SAME

I recently paid $42.99 for a lb. of IMR8208XBR and H4198 from a local dealer who had "found" a small amount. Another local shop had some 205M's for 129.99/1,000 (thankfully, I didn't need them). Here's my take: I'm 78 years old, have three of the finest custom-made benchrest rifles in the world, and I'm going to shoot them while I can still appreciate it. I don't like the price, I don't like the reasons, and damn the politicians -- but I'm going to shoot.
