Is it really worth it? Varget.

Ive tested with Varget but never had a rifle that liked it. A friend just yesterday found out his 6XC loves it and I gave him my condolences. I may give him my Varget. I have a number of cartridges that really shoot great with IMR-4166 and in addition, it is temp stable and has a decoppering agent that works great in my rifles. Ive reduced my target shooting by 90% and only do hunting and load development now. Let Chris Hodgdon and Vista eat powder. Ive loaded enough to last me a while as I put my reloading equip in storage for 8 months while we move to a more gun friendly state.
SeabeeKen,
Like you, I've never been able to get Varget to shoot in any of my rifles. Reloder 15 in my .223, h4350 in my 6.5x47L and Shooters World Precision Rifle in my 6br.

I have had similar experiences as others with Varget. It will go bang but I have never found a gun or cartridge of mine that prefers Varget over IMR 4064 or H4895 in anything from .223 to 6BR to .243 or .308.

That's funny. My general load to check a rifle is 43 grains of Varget with a 175 SMK, loaded to 2.800 - 2.820. If it won't shoot that, something's probably wrong with the gun.
Same here other than my bullet is a 178 gr. ELD-X. A close second to that load is 43.0 gr. of 4064, but I do like the varget a little better.

I have not found a 22-250 with 50-55 gr bullets that doesn't like Varget. Factory Ruger,Rem or TC and my Lilja barrels love it. Not the only powder that will shoot good groups but I have repeatable performance in cold weather, and I hunt in some cold temps.

I started reloading rifle/pistol/shotshell in '82 when I was 12 years old under my Pop's supervision. Long time reloaders have gone through the Clinton primer scare, the '94 Assault weapons ban, 9/11, Obama election/re-election, Sandy Hook, Hillary 2016, Covid, riots, and now Biden. I grew up using Hercules/Alliant in pistol/shotshell almost exclusively for decades and Reloder, IMR, Hodgdon in rifle cartridges. I finally got smart after the 1st Obama shortage and bought in larger bulk purchases. I got away from the highest demand powders shipped from the far corners of the Earth.

Seriously what does Varget do that , 4064 ,4895, Bl-C 2 , CFE and a few I failed to mention won't ?

I remember years back 335 ,332 , Benchmark 4198 all the rave for .223 BR shooters .

Well many of those same people also told ME ,Black Rifles were inherently inaccurate ; No where close to a real bolt gun . So one fine morning on the Range I brought a Bushmaster XM15 A2 20" and proceeded to stuff #15 rounds under a dime at 200 yd . with 55 gr. Bulk cannelure bullets over 25.5 Gr. BL-C 2 . Oh Yeah and chrome lined bores are inaccurate ,Lol . I've got #2 Rifles #3 serial numbers off and one doesn't digest what the other one likes . Sometimes it's a runaround finding the combinations but isn't that what we're all about ?. FINE TUNING . Oh Yeah Note the Winchester stock fodder upper ladder climb all left of POA .
