USPS getting snoopy

I had never shipped a long gun with USPS so I stopped at the PO in Grimes Iowa and asked the counterperson what was needed. She told me I could not ship it and that I needed to go with a different carrier. She actually told me I had to ship it with FedEx or UPS.

I went to the Waukee PO and talked to the Postmaster. He said as long as it was going to a dealer I could ship it. I asked if I needed to tell them it was a firearm and he said no. He told me to cover any markings on the box that identified it as a firearm.

Actually, you do have to tell any carrier it is a firearm. Supposed to be locked up if not on the road or in the air.

And as far as the bank notifying the feds about any amount of $$$$ being deposited or withdrawn over $10,000.00? $9,999.99. ;) Or a couple of deposits of $5K each. Each on a different day. :)
Bout ready to send a couple of Grand Sons a few $$$ and I'll make sure it's the right amount.

Got a couple of BIG deposits to send out soon. $145K ea. so those will be wired to their backs. No lost in the mail checks for me. ;)

You’re a little behind the times on those “triggers” for notification. The limit got lowered to $600. It was slipped into the “Build Back Better” legislation.
They needed to pay for it somehow.

Not true. They ask you a question perishable flammable ets and you answer truthfully. I have never been asked if the package contained a firearm.

Actually......

"

May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier?

A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her or her own state or to a licensee in any state. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun.
In addition, federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm or ammunition, prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm and requires obtaining written acknowledgement of receipt.

Maybe the USPS should be more focused on delivering the mail. The seem to lose mine quite frequently. If you want to question how I know they're losing my mail, subscribe to Informed Delivery. It will make your blood boil. It's a free service from USPS. I think it's their way of telling you that they have your mail, but you may or may not get it.

Maybe we should be thankfull that the USPS delivers mailpieces for less than the commercial carriers. This is not always the case but sending letters and their Priority Mail service are an economical choice. This is most likely because the USPS is supported by taxpayer dollars.

Went to get a couple money orders today, and before they would sell them to me, I had to state what I planned to purchase with them. She could tell that I was wondering why she asked that, and told me she has to ask, to be sure that I wasn't using the funds to purchase anything I shouldn't be. Since the money was for a scope, I said without thinking, "for a rifle scope". Ooops... Then came the funny looks and personal opinion that that was a lot of money for a scope ($1,400). Yes and no, scopes are anywhere between $150-4,000 I explained, depending on the brand, quality, features and magnification.

She still wasn't printing out the money order... Her- "what are you going to use it for?"
Me- "Target practice." Her- "what kind of targets?" Me - "Paper" Her- "you are buying a $1,400 scope to shoot paper?" Me-"Yes" Her- "Where are you buying this from?" Me- "private individual." Her- "If we think you are going to use this to do something illegal, we can't sell it to you" Me- Rifle scopes are not illegal to buy, and neither is shooting paper." This went on and on and on, even to the point of her wanting to know if I was "some kind of a sniper"!!

I actually think she may not have sold me the money order, if there wasn't 10 people in line behind me giving her a slew of disapproving looks. How sad, no one trusts anyone anymore.

This new USPS criminal task force is as ridiculous as US Bank requiring your Drivers License, current employment information, and the answer to the question of where the money came from when depositing over $499 in cash into your own account. Why? So they can red flag and track any accounts that are getting too much money put into them from unknown sources and report them. The bank police.

Geez! I'm getting tired of every place I go, everything I do, see, and search getting logged, tracked, flagged and reported. Talk about making you feel accused and questionable. I'm not doing anything wrong, so I'm not worried about it, but it sure does feel like a few bad apples are spoiling it for the rest of us, as well as giving everyone and their dog an unlimited excuse to spy on me and my stuff. Rude.

I do like all the cool things we have right now, but they sure come at a high price. I grew up in the 70's and 80's, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. In fact, I'm totally ready to go back to muscle cars, security cameras mostly only in James Bond movies, keggers on the mountain, Penthouse magazine for.. the articles, phones connected to walls, only 4 clear and two fuzzy channels on the T.V and small towns where people wave as they go by because it's nice to be friendly to folks you don't even know. The good 'ol days.

I gotta find me a Delorian...

It,s a shame we have to lie to this government to get things done. Tommy Mc

I would be more than happy to pay more to a private entity just to get my mail.

Get a cashiers check from your bank, send a personal check, send cash with Zelle, email them a check, so many choices. Stop using USPS money orders.

and you actually told her? let me guess you ran right out and got a covid shot and you still get them when told. you do waer a mask when your driving alone in the car, don't you?

Been a while since I have purchased a USPS money order, but I would have to inquire as to when the Bill of Rights was suspended, and by what legal means?! Any rule they make is unlawful if it violates an enumerated right, so the can kiss my hairy arse!

Went two chase bank with deposit tick from our daughter who is bed ridden. 1000 dollars in cash x-mas gift. bank said they can NOT take cash!!!!! said ihad to be on acct i said ok then they said she has to come in & sign paper work in person i said she would to come on a gurney. they said ok THEY ARE NUTS bad as usps. the world is upside down the good news is that at my age i don't have lone to put up with it.

Helped my sister move from NC to CO spent a few days and night before I leave she says you need a good gift for the wife--took me to high $$ French soap shop kinda place--she picked I paid stuffed it in my carry on and away to the Denver airport
OK so a metal can with screw on lid of $$$$ french bath beads looks Exactly like a pipe bomb on Xray I got stomped to the ground held down, cuffed and escorted off to the "interview" room. After about ten minutes they walked in said sorry hope you don't miss your flight

Dave:
Those were the days!!! Having guns hanging in the gun racks in pickups, guns in the back seat or trunk, empty 22s and shotgun shells rolling around on the floor board, and these vehicles were parked in the school parking lots!!! Police and sheriff didn't pull their guns out if you had visible firearms in the vehicle!!!
MUSCLE CARS!!!! THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!!
I had a 67 Chevelle SS with 4 on the floor and nothing more (meaning NO power accessories including steering) The engine was a 65 396 RAT (425 HP @ 6400 RPM). Replaced intake and exhaust manifolds with larger ported 427s and up the Quadra jet carb from 800 to 900 CFM! Best guess was 475-500 HP at 6800 RPM. Over 90 street quarters and lost to 2 (Strip car-straight 6 with a MILL, and a 440 6 pack Hemi Roadrunner) Had 2 pair of panties (trophies) hanging from rear view mirror from women who took them off in front of a small crowd!! When the panties fell, the race was on!!! MISS THOSE DAYS SO MUCH!!!
