Three Favorite Deer Cartridges

.280 Remington with 160 Gr. Sierra Game King, 30-30 Winchester with 150 Gr. Winchester factory loads, 250-3000 100 Gr. factory Remington since the wife got a case of ammo from the guy that had the rifle.

My customer/friend just got #23 with a Chevy P/U, 7 with a Harley...he hates deer...#22 with the Harley laid him up for a while..
Had a guy here once with a front guard on his pickup that would rival the cow catcher on a locomotive. He called it everybody's dream killer. I never asked him for a body count.

7mm-08 with 140 Sierra Pro Hunters, 25-06 with 117 Sierra Pro Hunters, that’s basically all I am using now for out to 300. I’d add the 444 marlin with 300 beartooth WFN’s for woods hunting.
I'm just curious, is there any difference in performance with the Pro Hunters vs the Gamekings?

OP, now that you have read a myriad of responses from a number of "hunter / shooters" all maintaining that either this cartridge or that is their recommendation, what conclusion have you come to? Virtually every cartridge named, if used properly within the confines of their appropriate use, will ALL kill deer with precision. I know this may seem a bit "snarky", which it is definitely NOT meant to be, but I need to ask a question: "What have you really learned and is it now possible to make any more of an educated choice than before your posting"? I bet you even have MORE to think about now than before and 90+ percent of them you could not tell the difference in performance between them and neither will the deer! LOL!!!

Only need one and it’s the 270. I am surprised at the number of 270s listed. It’s not one of the more common I’ve seen in the various hunting camps.
I'm a big .270 win fan BUT on this forum, I think you'd see it more in the hunting forum than any other place. Not much for bullets in LR shooting for the .277 and many other better choices. Great hunting cartridge and accurate as well.

Well, 2.5 votes for the 6.5 Creedmoor. Not bad out of 5 pages of fav deer rounds !!! Actually figured on alot more. All kidding aside, it is tremendously popular. Had a buddy ask me to help him put one together on a Savage action. His biggest point was factory ammo for a 6.5 cartridge. Unfortunately the .260 doesn't offer a great selection of loaded ammo. Plus, hard to find. Hornady offers lots of it and it's popular. For the non reloader, it's a no brainier if you want a 6.5 caliber. Ok, back to the bashfest, still only 2.5 hunters think it's a good deer round in this poll.
