Three Favorite Deer Cartridges

Well, 2.5 votes for the 6.5 Creedmoor. Not bad out of 5 pages of fav deer rounds !!! Actually figured on alot more. All kidding aside, it is tremendously popular. Had a buddy ask me to help him put one together on a Savage action. His biggest point was factory ammo for a 6.5 cartridge. Unfortunately the .260 doesn't offer a great selection of loaded ammo. Plus, hard to find. Hornady offers lots of it and it's popular. For the non reloader, it's a no brainier if you want a 6.5 caliber. Ok, back to the bashfest, still only 2.5 hunters think it's a good deer round in this poll.
We actually hunt with both 6five and 260, just never shot any critters with them yet.
Didnt figure the count as favorites yet until performance is personally experienced

I'm just curious, is there any difference in performance with the Pro Hunters vs the Gamekings?

I’ve never tried the game kings. According to Sierra they are made for longer range shooting while the pro hunters are made for closer range. I hunt woods and small fields where the longest shot I’ve ever had is a touch over 200 yards so I took Sierra at their word and went with their recommendation for short range shooting. Pro hunters perform perfectly for close range work. I’ve had shots as short as a few yards and achieved pass through and expansion at 200.

Had a guy here once with a front guard on his pickup that would rival the cow catcher on a locomotive. He called it everybody's dream killer. I never asked him for a body count.
Texas guys chime in here. When I made a few forays to the Hill Country, it seemed like all the pickups and emergency vehicles had those big units on the front.

6.5x55 SE w/ the 142 Nosler ABLR
256 Newton w/ the 129 Nosler ABLR
(tie) 25-06 w/ the Nosler 110 AB and the 358 Win with a 200 gr Sierra GK and the 264 WM w/ the Nosler 142 ABLR

Only 3. Not enough choices. But, .300 Win Mag, .308 Win. 6.5 Grendel 25/06 oops that's 4, I like em all but that's the 3 or 4 I hunt with the most. One thing I've noticed is the older I get the less recoil and weight the better I like it.

A lot of the ranches out there utilize bump gates. They don't have to get out of the truck to open and close the gates. Just pull up and push your way through.
Another plus is when they are leaving the honky tonk or ice house at closing time.
And then there is vanity. What self respecting Texan would have an F250 dually and not have it fully outfitted. You should have seen Gilleys parking lot in the Urban Cowboy days.

.44 mag, 240gn jacketed soft points, Ruger auto for the nasty up close thick stuff
.243 win, 95gn Bergers
7x57, 140gn Nosler( another Ruger #1 )

What are you three favorite deer cartridges, you can even choose your bullet for out to 300 yards? I was thinking about it last night and finally came down to 7mm Mauser (7x57), 6.5-284 and 270WSM The 7x57 would shoot the Nosler Accubond LR 168 grain, the 6.5-284 would shoot the 142 grain Nosler Accubond LR and the 270 WSM would shoot again the Nosler accubond LR in 150 grain. I think all three of these would be effective out to 300 yards. My favorite being the 7x57, killed a truckload with my Ruger No.1 using the Noslers.

Blonde, red head then Brunette in that order

which ever one has the finest "trigger" to set it off?

and put meat on the table..

6.5x47L 140 Berger hunting bullet

30-06 with anything!

243 85 or 90gr SGK or 85tsx

The 243 and 257 Roberts seem to be the two most frequently mentioned. Very low response foe the 30-06 and the 30-30. Sorry, shotguns and 300 yards simply don't make it.
