Favorite 6mm bullet for deer.

First off, I have tried them twice in two different calibers and they did not shoot worth a crap. I did not feel like wasting powder and time trying to figure them out, when I already had loads that work just fine. Secondly, I don't like the idea of hunting with target bullets and as far as I am concerned based on everything that I have seen, that is all that they are.

I suppose they would be alright if you are shooting animals at ridiculous ranges, as they don't dynamite quite so badly doing that. I just don't buy off on that style of hunting, but that is just me. I do not shoot Hornady SST bullets for the same reason.

And yes, I DO drink light beer!:D

Glad that you have tried them. They shoot great in my Dashers and 25-06. My brother shoots Hornady SST's in his 30X47 and they are devastating on whitetail. Just did the distillery tour locally. Went across the street to their brewery store and bought some Chocolate Bunny Stout dark beer. As for light beer, may as well buy regular and mix it 50/50 with water. Same taste for half the cost. Man we just can't agree on anything!
:D Who are you voting for? :D:D

There's a good reason for that business decision.

If one had to bet anything sacred to them ;)
on A 6mm bullet being able to shoot well and ya didn't pick the 85gr Sierra HPBT you deserve to lose your bet. It is in my experience the most accurate and versatile bullet in any caliber, comparatively speaking of course. Anything from pdogs to small elk, paper to meat on the table, it's the one to beat. JME. WD
Bet you a Wisconsin Friday night fish supper they aren't even close to being the one to beat on paper!

Toss in a couple pounds of Wisconsin's best swiss cheese, and you're on. None of this lukefish stuff either.;);) :D:D:D

For hunting purposes they are a versatile bullet. WD

Can't find lutefisk this time of year but I can make a batch of lefse to sweeten the pot!

We hunt the rut, they are often chasing does, perfect broadside shots don't always happen, quartering to and fro happen often, along with frontal and running away shots. 80g tipped triple shock works well also, but does not leave as good a blood trail as a 95g partition or a 100g Hornady. Kansas bucks run 200 lbs on the small side, shots are usually 250-350, Nebraska bucks run large also.

80g tipped triple shock load in Rem 700
243 Winchester 24" barrel
80gr TTSX
Winchester brass
CCI 200 primers
45.2gr H4350
2.610" coal
Estimated velocity is 3350-3400 fps

95g Nosler partition
42.0g of H4350
Win primer
Bullet .040 off the lands
Alright with 42gr of imr4350 cci primer 2.670 coal I'm getting 3/4- 1 inch group at 100 yards. Im going to try bumping the powder a couple grains play with bullet depth and try winchester primers. Should I try putting a little crimp on the buller???

Remington Express 100gr Core-Lokt PSP.
After reading thru this, it looks like everything from the 105 Bergers to the 70 Gr. Sierra Blitzking will take Deer clean and easy. Over the past 55 years I have taken something over 350 Deer all across North America, including Canada, Kansas, Wyoming etc.
Man that's like six deer a year for 55 years....you must hunt a lot!

From 100 to 300 yards you are already using the best bullet made.

^^^ what he said. Partitions are the finest hunting bullets made for deer sized game and above. I have a 243AI and a 257AI. Partitions work flawlessly in each of the chamber designs. A friend in Idaho built a 257AI on my recommendation. He uses 120gr Partitions for elk. His first time out with it he took one shot at about 175 paces and had one dead elk.
