Thoughts on the northland shooters and Bat partnership?

I think NSS is just going to buy actions from bat to. Since bat already has actions that will work with a remage it will be interesting to see if NSS specs anything different.

I don’t know look at the bat chart on their site. Remington tenons are
1 1/16 x 16 tpi.

Seems like they are either 1 1/4x 16 or 1 1/16 x 18 tpi. They have a couple that fit the R700 stock inlet but it doesn't look like the remage would work on any

Well looks like that is right so i stand corrected. I’ll shut up now.

If you buy 10 actions from bat theyll thread them to anything you want even some kind of metric or acme threads. This isnt a partnership they have actions on order with a special thread just like anybody can.

Is the regular 1 1/16 Bat tennon longer(deeper?) or in some way superior to the R700 dimensions? That would be my only concern. I would love to own a Bat action.

It does not matter how long the tenon is with a nut as long as you don't run out threads.
He may offer 1 - 1/16 x 18tpi nuts also.

On the nss website it says they will soon offer bat actions that will work with the remage barrel but set up. Would this be worth having over a trued Remington action? How much would you be giving up over a true custom fit barrel with a Bat?

I’ve had several custom rifles made by some of the best ‘smiths around and they have all been great, but none have shot better than my Shilen DGR with Criterion prefit barrels that I bolted together in my garage. The group below is five shots from my 8” twist 22-250 light varmint shooting 75gr Amaxes at 3200 fps. The scope was dialed from zero to the upper elevation stop and back to zero between every shot. Says much for the Nightforce SHV F1 too. I also have a Criterion 6.5x47 light varmint that routinely shoots in the .4s to .5s and a Criterion .308 light varmint that groups in the .3s to .4s. When my Criterion prefits routinely group like this, I cant justify spending double the $ on a ‘smith fitted barrel.

I guess ill be the one to ask- why would you shoot a group dialing the scope to the upper stop on every shot?

I like NSS. I have bought 3 Criterion barrels. All shoot great. They offer a lot of options for the person who wants to buy the parts and build their own rifle. They offer an easy way to build an excellent semi custom rifle.

Wonder why nobody has made a nut for a regular bat thread? Its not like a bat was off limits for nuts before now- it doesnt take a special action thread to do this. They took the savage nut concept and applied it to the remington thread but not bats or pandas or anything else

Why make a nut for a Panda or BAT when you can headspace them (and even clock them for a Panda) with a shouldered barrel without having the action in hand? The only reason for a nut is sloppy tolerances on factory actions from receiver face to boltface.

From what you are describing you are not buying a pre-fit barrel. You have a custom, fitted barrel, with a nut. The better option of the two. A pre-fit is usually chambered by the manufacturer of the barrel and is a universal fit for most receivers. Usually a step up from a factory barrel but not as good as a custom fitted one. Yours is the better option. In my opinion.

There is zero difference in have a NSS pre-fit and a gunsmith turn one, they all are universal to fit what action they are threaded for....every Savage pre fit or as you say custom fit will measure the same

Same reason some like nut on a Savage or Remington, easy of build and caliber change ability.

Oh contraire! I have owned several nutted Criterion barrels that have and do average 5 shot groups of .25 MOA or better. Not best groups, average. I have shot many 5 shot groups under .2 and more than a few in the 0's.
