School me on actions...

Remingtons have one big advantage, they take the best triggers that are available. A smaller, but significant one is the number of stocks that are available. I have, Savage rifles, and like them for many applications. I also have rifles based on custom and Remington actions. They all get their respective jobs done to my satisfaction.

Let me break it down for you:

If you start with a Remington factory and pay a competent gunsmith to tweak it till it matches the specs/tolerances of a custom action, you will have spent more than buying a custom in the first place.

If you don't need the accuracy that comes with the specs/tolerances of a custom, then, well, you don't need a custom.

If you do buy a custom, just make sure that you're getting one that doesn't need further working over. I've made that mistake and won't be making it again.

GSPV summed it up for you there! I just sold a 700 LA that I was going to do a build on but, after I considered all the work and the addition of "goodies" I came to my senses! I, and anyone else, would be money ahead to buy one that has been done with all the "goodies" than to do it themselves! You see them in the classifieds all the time. Like Boyd said though, it depends on the desired application?
