The Dasher 100 Yard Challenge

Bart, out of curiosity do you think you would have agg'd better if you were shooting your ppc that day in those conditions?

Alex,

For what I shot in today that was a respectable agg for any caliber. If I had to put a number on my Dasher as to what kind of aggregate its realistically capable of, I'd put it at around a .2000 to 2100. Where the 6ppc with a great barrel and bullets is capable of the .1400 to 1500 Aggs or possibly smaller. So yes, I do think I would have shot smaller with my PPC.

I know we have ballistic programs at tell us 2970 Fps 105 gr 6mm drifts less than 3380 Fps 68 gr at 100 and 200 yards. However that's not what I'm seeing on paper. Maybe it's the inherent accuracy of the PPC but I'm seeing the 105s move more than the 68s at the shorter ranges. That's just my take on things. Nothing scientific just what I'm seeing.

Can the Dasher win a short range match? YES, but it would have to have an Apex Predator driving it and shooting against a weak field. Basically a T-Rex in a Field of cows!

If we ever get rid of winter here, I am going to shoot this. I can only get 95 yards at my range, so my score wouldn't count. Barlow

I know the ppc is the short range king, just wondering if the 105 would be an advantage in those high winds.

Alex

I think the 105s are at a disadvantaged in the high winds at 100 and 200. They take off like a Dodo Bird compared to the 68 grain bullets. When the PPC starts running out of steam at 300 maybe the 105s have the advantage.

So Bart... Anyone having success shooting your 68 Boats in a .237" bore, 4 groove 8 twist 6BR? Do they tolerate a pretty good hop to the rifling (I assume, as I have .120 freebore)? 200 yard application I'm talking about here. Shooting 7/8" diameter poker chips. 10 shots @ 10 chips - no sighters after the first (of 4) relay & it's always windy on match days. I'm shooting your 105s now & think I'm getting them sorted. For reference, you gotta hit at least 33 out of 40 to be in the money usually - sometimes more. I'm just having a hard time believing a 68 going faster would buck the wind better than a 105. But they are cheaper, would recoil less (though not an issue), etc. You guys are a lot more experienced than me - just seeking opinions...

Here are 4 load development targets all starter seating depth. Just testing powder charge.

I will do 5 more next time I go foul the barrel. I just scrubbed it down from the last match I shot with it.

Alloy,

This is where things are getting a little muddled. What I'm seeing is 68gr bullets in my 6ppc not drifting as much as 105s in my Dasher.

However, load some 68s up in your BR and try running them around 3320 and also try 3380 for velocity. Just play with the seating depth and see what you get!

Looks good! I look forward to seeing your agg!

Would it be okay for me to shoot my agg with an underwater spear gun? :( As Johnny Cash would say, "How high's the water mama?"
