IMR 4451 in the Dasher

xs, have you hunted coyotes with the dasher yet? I was wondering what the results were as far as feeding etc. I know I get a little antsy flinging lapua brass out into the weeds/snow.

I haven't no. I ended up setting my Dasher up in a Magpul Hunter stock though and it feeds flawlessly through the Magpul AICS magazine with no mods.

A metal AICS mag also feeds very well however I've had a hang up witht the second shell a couple of times for some reason. Overall it feeds great and I wouldn't hesitate to use it as a hunting gun IF it was a tad lighter.

My experience with IMR4451 has been that it will do nothing that H4350 will not. In other words, whatever guys are getting with H4350 in 6 Dasher they will get with IMR4451. I've shot it in 7MM08 with heavier bullets and in 260 Rem. It meters like other extruded powders and my feeling is you're really compressing it to get that into a normal Dasher case. Are you using the Norma brass from Bullets.com or brass formed from Lapua 6BR?
Also, I would say from my experience and also what I've read from other tests that IMR4451 is not as forgiving of temperature changes as H4350 and you could very well run into pressure issues when the weather heats up a bit.
I read this old post of yours and wondered what you think of using 4451 in a 6mmGT. Only because I have 12# of the stuff and am thinking RL16 powder will be better but the carbon build up is annoying. I know the 4451 is dirty but easy to clean compared to RL16.

It's been my experience with 6GT (limited due to some other issues) that something like Varget, RE15 or, in my case, RE15.5 are better. I'm sure IMR4451 would be okay. Hodgdon has some data for it on their reloading website. They used Alpha brass, 107SMK and maxed out at 2,936FPS from a 24" barrel @ 37.8 grains. NOTE:
They show that load hitting 62,000PSI so I would not go right to it.

Thanks, I found a lot of data on Sierra and on the SHOOTER'S REFERENCE page. and older reloading pages. I think I will start off using it and see how it goes next week when I get the new rifle. I have to find a home for all this 4451 powder. Your information is encouraging.

It is very similar to H4350 and plenty of folks are running that in 6GT. The extra case volume of the GT over the Dasher helps with that burn rate powder. Looking at the load data, H4350 and IMR4451 appear to have the same charge window.

I'm running 35.8gr of H4350 in my 6GT 26in barrel pushing a 112gr Matchburner 2820fps. This is a PRS rig. Stellar accuracy and bc performance with the matchburner.

I have two pounds of 4451 left to burn, maybe I will use it up in the PRS rig if it shoots!

Cheers,
Toby
