Texas vs Australia Fly Shoot Entry

Just a bit of background on the canberra conditions yesterday.

Had a look at yesterdays wind observations taken at Canberra airport about 10 kms from range.

Same in Kms per hour

10.30 30 gusting to 39

11.30 35 50

12.30 44 61

1.30 32 48

2.30 35 59

3.30 37 54

Sort of averages out at around 35 K per Hour with average gust at 52 K per Hour. That is a 17 Kph spread, This is not a real reliable number, but it illustrates how tough the conditions were.

Tough conditions, Im guessing some average scores were shot??

2nd overall!! happy with that! Conditions were pretty mad with 50km/h gusts. Aiming at the edge of the page to drift one into the scoring rings plays havoc with the brain. Cant wait to see all the photos of both sides of the battle.

Congratulations Chappo, it's been awhile since you were up there with the top scores.

Congratulations to the "Texas" crew... I see them listed as USA but I believe it's supposed to be Texas V Aussie.. Whatever, I hope all competitors over the other side of the world enjoyed their day and really hope to see some comments posted here.

Not that much in it... next time the smile might be on the other foot....

Welcome Texas to 500 Fly.

PS.... Chappo, what were you using.

What a pity that the Equipment Lists got lost some years ago... Just out of interest for other competitors.

Well done Texas you beat the Aussies at there own game, not an easy feat there’s some great Fly shooters over here!!

Be great to see some pics of your range and targets shot and hope ya’ll enjoyed ‘The Fly’.

Cheers Rushty

Yesterday was a blast. Day started with a delay to let the fog lift. Then after a couple of targets, the mirage set in in earnest along with wind shifts. No wind like the Aussies had but highly variable. Richard Pullum took us all to school.

All in all, it was a good day and we learned a lot. Looking forward to doing this again.
Joe

Many, many thanks to Mike Crockcroft for organizing, promoting, and hosting this match. You cannot appreciate all the time, effort, money, and energy he put into this match. Thanks a bunch Mike.
And thanks to you Australians for sharing your sport with us.

Thanks to all my shooting friends that showed up to compete with my new friends in Australia. Match would not have been possible without all the help from Joe Duke, Larry and Beth Deese, Justin Cockcroft and Tommy Middleton.
Many thanks to the sponsors. Those of you that won prizes from the prize table please email the donor and say thanks.

Mike the Fly match went off great yesterday. Really like the adding of additional points for group size. I think that this is going to be a real winner and I am looking forward to about a half dozen of them next year. Those that did not sign up missed a great time.

Thanks to everyone who made yesterday's shoot a big success. Mikey, I think it's gonna take off big time next year.... can't wait! Hats off to all the winners... especially Richard who did a superb job in showing us how it's done. Also big attaboy to Australia's " Chappo" who shot some unbelievable groups in horrible conditions. Wonder what he can do if it's only blowing 15-20 instead of 35-40?? All in all, an extremely enjoyable day and a huge success for the first time out of the gate
Scott

Congrats to all. I really like this friendly competition with the shooters down under and have to thank them for sharing their game with us. Mike, thanks for finding this new match and again for all the work, time and expense that you put into putting it together. I believe that this is going to be a great success and many thanks to all of the sponsors.
