12 Texans in the top 20
While we are basking in our glory we also know that if the Aussies had not had 40 mph winds they probably would have beat us like a step child. Aussie Greg Chapman, winner of their match and second in the combined match shot an awesome score in Canberra in winds we would have called a hurricane. Congrats Greg.
But being proud Texans, we have a slogan over here "Don't Mess With Texas"

We are also waiting on an apology from our two naysayers Butch Lambert and Bill Shehane LOL

G'day Fella's and Ladies or should that be Sheila's :D

Congratulation to you Texan's but don't worry we will be back next year to give you blokes (and Sheila's if there were any) a run for your money :)

Not wanting to make excuses but yeah it was a bloody hard day in Canberra and if it nothing else it was a testament to how good of shooters some/most/all of these competitors are. My daughter and I who are still relatively new to the sport are always blown away by the consistency of just about everyone no matter what the conditions but more so the friendliness of everyone we have met who have done nothing but gone out of their way to help us improve. Once again we were witness to some fantastic groups and scores. Chappo led the way and young Ken showed us how its done in light gun. Canberra did a fantastic job hosting it , Stella's and my appreciation and thanks goes out to them all.

We can't wait to see some videos and pictures from our overseas friends, here is a link that can give you and idea of what we were up against.

In the Pine Valley match
Richard Pullum had the high two gun score with Danny Barringer second and Donnel Gaines third

Excellent shooting by the Aussies in that wind.I am curious, could you guys see your bullet holes in the target? In the video , it looked like the dust would have almost blocked your view at times.
As I expected ,the mirage was terrible at times here, such that I thought the difficulty seeing made it tough.
It is frustrating to finish shooting your target blind and then a cloud comes by and you see your group stuck over on one side.
If you guys had to shoot blind in that wind, then I am truly amazed at your scores.
It seemed that everyone had a good time. I had the privilege of coaching 17 year old Will Toronjo through it, though he almost beat me so soon I think he will be coaching me.
I appreciate all the work Mike and others put in to make it work.
I would point out for the sake of accuracy that the winds in Australia were in kilometres per hour such that I think the conversion factor is 1.609 or there about.
Regardless, it was a brutal wind and it looked to me that it would be hard to keep your group on the target, much less the 10 ring.Congratulations to those who shot well in both Texas and Australia.

G'day Darrel

The holes sort of drifted in and out. Frequently we would fire a couple of shots then the mirage and dust would clear and we wished we couldn't see them ;) I don't recall going a whole target this time without a glimpse or three and some targets we could see every shot unlike last time we shot in Canberra where we shot most of our targets blind from what I can recall.

What is the most common reticle used in Australia for the Fly ?

Do your splash plates have a painted spot in the middle to aim at or is the plate solid white, no aiming point?

Splash Plates are just plain sprayed white. Some you can see a previous painted over shot mark, depends on how much paint but it's generally a light quick coat to get it all done asap.

From the dozen or so scopes I know of it's a variety of reticle to personal favour and brand, mostly Nightforce and some March. From plain cross hair to windage/elevation markings. My March 8-80x56 and 10-60x52 I like the MTR-2 Reticle, 5-50x56 has an MTR-1 and I know there are a few other that use that Reticle which is also common on a few Nightforce 12-42x56's but the Nightforce version which from memory may cover a bit more in the sight glass.

A mate was using the furthest windage mark possible in his Nightforce at Canberra to get close to the Fly in that wind.

Chappo and a few others have a lot more experience and knowledge of what others use so will probably add a lot more info for you.

Been brought up by shooters here and Aus. to make this a "team" informal postal shoot.
The attached spreadsheet shows the top five in each match being a team, and adding the teams scores up to get the winning team.
Top five TX shooters earned 1189.16 points for a 237.832 average
Top five Aus. shooters earned 1141.15 points for a 228.23 average
TX wins "team" match by 48.01 points
This will be the format I would like to see used for any future informal postal matches between TX and Aus.
Comments?

Great to have you guys shooting the fly & by the look of the scores you have picked it up quickly.

keen to get a few points back on you guys in the upcoming shoots as well ...weather permitting.

Looking forward to seeing the photo's from your shoot.

Cheers Ken

I have 1200 photos from the match. Trying to get 132 of them uploaded as a slide show. I am having problems with that. Anyone skilled in photo sharing/downloading /slide shows and posting slide shows please PM me with your phone number.

I told Lezlie there was going to be a ton of pictures to go through...your photographer was a bit trigger happy :p

Oh and please don't publish any pictures of me...the witness protection stuff gets nasty when that happens.

Hi Mike, the most popular is the NF 12-42x56 with the NP2-DD reticle, starting to see some of the new NF competition series and a few March and Weaver T36 while the tactical boys have their zero stops etc.

As for the plates either yellow or white paint with NO aim points. As the wind was mostly left to right I was aiming a the left hand edge of the splash plate to figure out how much drift there was. Sometimes I had the left edge of the right hand side NP2DD reticle aimed at the left hand edge of the fly target.

Thanks Mike for sharing the photos, Its nice to see all that hardware. Some of those warmer targets are impressive.

Here is a link to some photos my Daughter took.

For no other reason than it's just the rules we play by I suppose. Makes it a bit easier for the target crew. I typically just line up under the fly and in the middle of the plate. Though on the weekend I was aiming more to the left edge as I missed the bloody thing a few times.
