Texas vs Australia Fly Shoot Entry

Range will be open Saturday, July 22 by eight for Fly Shoot practice
Will have targets and sighter plates set up as they will be on match day
Mike

Joe,
Not as hot as I thought it would be!!
There was some good targets shot. A couple of guys left much more excited then when they arrived. They shot some good groups and added a second class to their entry.
We could see bullet holes for a little while when we first started but the mirage moved in fast.
No one is used to using the sighter plate while shooting the target. We need to get used to going back and forth from sighter plate to target. Wind flags will play a big part also.
I am having new plate hangers made to raise the sighter plate up so it is about 8 inches below the bottom of the target. One good twist of the speed screw will get you from center of plate to center of target.
Travis is bringing the shorter hangers next Saturday to Larry's shatter blast match.
Good luck in Colorado
mike

Mike, you are really putting a lot of work, effort and expense into this match. It should be a good time for all. Just want you to know that I appreciate what you are doing.

Just checked local weather in Canberra, Australia @ 12:30 PM AEST. Temp 55, High 60, Wind 3MPH WNW, 43% Humidity,BP 30.07", Visibility 8 MI. A little different than what we were experiencing last Saturday. Sounds like pretty good shooting weather to me...

You're right Ron, I have invested a lot in this match. Hopefully we will have a good turnout and this format will catch on. Planning a series of matches next year with a shooter of the year named.
You interested in keeping up with scores next year for the SOTY?

I would be happy to keep a spreadsheet on scores for shooter of the year.

Canberra can be extremely wild and windy. You can have 0 mph winds one minute and the next it can turn wild with 20-40 kph winds switching from left to right across the range, yet alone a mad rain storm as well. Target blowing off their frame on one corner make it pretty hard to post a score within the time frame. Mirage so bad you can't see any of the scoring rings yet alone the fly.

About a month to go so I hope you guys book in a good day. Cooling down your way, warming up over here, Wagga Wagga NSW Fly Shoot on this weekend coming. See what conditions bring before September at Canberra.

picture of Fly Shoot embroidered patches that will be given out at match for the number of flies hit. Patches are number 1 thru 6. Patch sent to me from Aussies on left and artwork for mine on right. The Aussies were kind enough to put my order in with their order for several thousand so I was able to get an excellent price!!!!
