Texas vs Australia Fly Shoot Entry

you shoot a total of 5 record targets, 5 shots on each target, and you get three shots on a sighter plate for each target
5x8 =40
If you enter light gun and heavy gun you will be shooting 80 rounds
You can shoot a light gun (17 pounds max) in both weight classes if you want to

The whole day match, you should get an optional "Warmer" target first up before a Fly Competition starts. It is optional and unlimited shots/rounds allowed in the 10 minute time slot. You can have a whole box of rounds on the shooting bench if you wish. Most find 10 rounds is enough for the warmer to tweak their aim.

From there on, 5 details. One of the beginning commands is "Display 8 Rounds" and that is all you are allowed on the shooting bench. 5 rounds only allowed on the "Score Target", the 3 sighters can be shot at any time on the sighter/splash plate during your 7 minutes allowed time. Most people down here take 50 rounds to a match, they may or not use them all. Some people like to use all those 50 rounds to keep their reloading batch consistent. With permission from the Range Officer some shoot their remaining rounds at the Stop Bank just to get rid of them after they finish their last target, some give others a go that may like to shoot their gun/calibre. All within the 7 minute time slot.

Want to thank these donors again. This same group has been helping me put together prize tables for matches since I built the Pine Valley Range in 2010.
We are proud to bring Fly Shoots to the USA. Its my hope that this format will catch on and grow here. The rules are simple, no 30 page rule book that everyone interprets differently.
The Fly Shooters in Australia have bent over backwards to help me put this together.
They sent the scoring program to me which is a very impressive piece of programming.
They go as far as calling me regularly to give me advice and answer my questions.
Now we just have to beat their ass at this match!!!

Darrel Martin was at range this morning testing some ammo. From the benches it looked like a 50 plus 9 for group. At the break drove down to check targets.
Damn !! Where did that flyer come from

Guy's, It's the 500 Fly not the 100 Fly!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike stop gloating. We shoot the Fly in AUS for the love of it not for whats on the table for prizes. That said can you hook us up??
Just shows the difference in the 2 markets. Incredible!!!!

Mike,

I hope after this match when we have wiped the floor with your guy's that we can still all be friends?

On a more serious note I hope none of your potential starters were effected too badly by the floods and you get a really good turn out. How many have you got currently??

Peter

Loaded up 154 rounds for the 6 Honey Badger last night. Bringing the Ole 47, too. Might as well shoot light and heavy. Looking forward to it!

Awesome prize table. Thanks, Mike!!

WOW...Doc's got that 7 shooting. After some testing Sunday afternoon.....I don't have a thing that will be competitive at this deal. Mike you should let me run the match and you shoot the 260AI on my entry.

Lots of us are in the same boat, Judd. I haven't fired a single round at 500M with the rifle I'm bringing. Big plans, but life gets in the way.

I just loaded up two different bullets & powder combos, seating them all long. I'll do quite a bit of shooting on Friday - practicing the format, playing with seating depth, etc. I may shoot one load in light and one in heavy. Or I may shoot the better of the two in light and shoot my old 6.5x47 in heavy. At this point it's about supporting the format and having fun for me. Being competitive probably won't happen unless I get real lucky on a load and learn to shoot in my sleep.

Come on guys, I'm depending on you to put a Texas woopin on the Aussies !!!!!!
Where's your confidence? If the Honey Badger cant do it I guess we are doomed to defeat.
I will never live this down if someone doesn't step up to the plate!!!

This is part of the plan. Make them overconfident...

That 47 might surprise a lot of people Travis

I'm exempt anyway, they are scared of brakes. ;)

Awesome to see you guys having a go at the fly. Warning, it can be addictive. Do you have a scoring program yet or are you doing it old school on paper?

Chappo555
We have the latest and greatest excel scoring program curtesy of our friends in Australia

Chappo, I think that may have come from Anthony.

Mike, the weather conditions look like they may be very similar so I do hope you guys enjoy and look forward to seeing the results and heaps of photos like Mr Bell is going to post on the Aussie site.

BTW... Chappo had one lovely looking 6.5x47L's going around and was extremely accurate. He does a great job at his local Wagga range for the Fly Competition as does his young bloke.

Shooting, both weight grades, marking targets etc is a huge effort for anyone.

Please guys, enjoy the day.

Not into any sports that don't go bang. Smallish town I live in has a radio station that I listen to in the mornings. KSAM 101.7 FM in Huntsville, TX
Been working at the range the last 3 days getting it ready for Saturday. We just finished drawing benches and relays this evening.

Well, as always, Mike has his stuff together and we're ready to go in the morning. Looks like it'll be challenging conditions tomorrow but everyone is excited to give it a whirl. Some interesting groups shot today, I hope the Ausiess are having a great match and we'll see how the chips fall tomorrow evening.
