Testing ammo in 2500x

Testing Several different lots of Lapua Center-x / Midas plus and Eley match at 50 yards. Not seeing a huge difference between groups. Each lot is highlighted with a different color. May do some testing at 100 yards next. Perhaps the lots with the smallest extreme spread will have the least amount of vertical At 100. I may also try a tuner test with the center -x which I highlighted in pink. I have close to four bricks of that one.IMG_2279.jpeg

Today conditions were good so I did some testing of Madas + / center -x and eley match. All at 100 yards. Not a huge difference between the three but I lean towards the center-x groups highlighted in orange. I may take that batch next and try moving the tuner to see if I can improve the groups a bit.IMG_2282.jpeg

All the shooting above was on tuner setting 18 on a P.Q.P. tuner. Today I did a tuner test at 50 yards with the orange lot of Center-x. All 3 shot groups. I repeated some of the settings on the lower lines but the results weren’t exactly the same. I left it on tuner setting 15. I can see what looks like a sine wave as far as where the groups are forming.IMG_2284.jpeg

You have some decent groups there but personally ain't liking the 15 setting. Too much vertical in both groups. Its evident in the 1st target too.
I gave no idea where your POA was but am assuming dead center which is fine, but put 4-5 clicks up & hold same so you'r not muddying it up with each shot. Sure you can see the crosshairs in alignment with the vertical & horizontal lines, but its easier.
Just out of curiosity is this a new setup or one purchased used. And if used where did the previous owner have the tuner set?

The rifle was purchased used with about 500 rounds through the barrel. The previous owner had it on tuner setting 18.

Keith,
I took your advice and dialed up a few clicks. I shot all the same tuner settings that I shot yesterday. I cleaned the barrel prior and put three fowling shots through the barrel prior to tuner test. Perhaps three wasn’t enough because the first few groups were spread out a bit. 15 to 22 look decent. Maybe I should try the 17 setting. Pretty close to where it was set when I received it, Below is the setup i‘m using at home. The bench was built for shooting air rifles. The targets are posted on a wooden box filled with a bag and a half of rubber mulch Compressed into the box. There is a steel plate on the back side but the bullets don’t reach it. Feel free to comment as I’m new to shooting .22 long rifle.IMG_2292.jpegIMG_2289.jpeg

Mike,
1st off, I'm no tuning guru by any means. Just saw more vertical than I would like at 15 on the previous targets. Looking at this target I'd agree, 17-22 seem the best. Now see if it will repeat, multiple times to gain some confidence in them.
Having said that, a good majority of 24" straight tapered .900 barrels with either a Harrell's or Stiller tuner on them are between 160-225. By no means am I saying that lower or higher settings won't work. As a for instance I'm so dead set in my ways, (stubborn), I don't even try different settings. I start there so take it for what its worth.
I'm sure you've read a ton on tuning & if so you've read where Mike Ezell has said there will be multiple sweet spots as you go thru the range of a tuner as tune will repeat. Thats a fact. Which one your most comfortable with, that REPEATS time & time again is what your looking for.

I bought a lightly used 2500x setup , I have only had time to put the scope on it and shoot a couple groups with it. I started at the 160 ish setting I have read so many have good luck with , here are the initial results. When I get time to relax and shoot more I will do a more extensive test, I’m very happy so far. 50 yards 480C68AE-B5EA-4BE9-95F9-166AD1D900E9.png

Wow,from what I'm seeing you have a stellar rifle with groups like that 10 clicks apart. I'd love to see a test of that rifle in 1 or 2 click increments from 160-170. Thats another thing when I'm trying different settings is a broader window such as yours that shoots nice round groups.

Received a couple more lot numbers of midas +. It seems like they all shoot about the same. Tonight I shot a few groups to warm up then shot my first ibs card at 50 yards With one of the new batches of ammo. Left the tuner setting where I had it last. The wind was lite mostly left to right. On most of the shots I held to the right edge of the 10 ring. Not sure how it would score out but looks like several x’s.IMG_2309.jpeg

250-19X maybe if plugged might be more or less X's
this is the IBS target best edge scoring just touch the center dot for an X same with the 10 ring

Lee,
Thanks for scoring the target and info on how to score. My first match will be coming up in a couple weeks shooting two of these ibs targets. I believe the best of the two is turned in for score.

Today was a bit windy so I took the rifle to the range to see what it will do in the wind. Seems like the left to right wind pushed the shots almost straight down. The right to left moved the shots to the left with no change in elevation. Shot 23 hit where I was holding. The wind let up just before I got the shot off.IMG_2325.jpeg

Nice. What size is the ten ring, and is scored best or worst edge?
