Tack Driver 5

Sorry Bart. You and Jackie are both wrong on this one. That is exactly the problem I saw, people leaving their set up on the bench and not using it. More or less just claiming it. Maybe that is how you do it in a sanctioned match, but this isn’t a sanctioned match, it’s all about having fun. The bottom line is with limited sight in/testing time, I would rather be able to test on a bench I would not be shooting on than not be able to test at all. It’s a matter of common courtesy.

Without listing names, I was told not once, but twice, that “so and so was going to shoot next”, when I set up equipment on a EMPTY bench. I politely removed it after being yelled at both times and there the benches sat, EMPTY. On the other benches where the equipment was set up and not being used, it sat there even after the announcement was made to REMOVE it.

You don’t buy a bench when you pay the entry fee. You buy the opportunity to compete in a match just like every other participant.

If your group isn’t organized well enough to make use of the time allowed for practice and shoot constantly, then don’t tie up the bench unnecessarily.

Just my opinion-Dave.
Dave
No we are not.
I think you’re missing the concept of, you draw a bench, put out flags on that bench, walk down and put up targets up for that bench. It’s your rotations bench. Period.
Then you coordinate with those assigned to that rotation how you’re going work the equipment. There wasn’t any downtime on our bench with five guys competing for it. You Walk up, wait your turn and shoot.

If for some unknown reason I wander to a bench that was open and not my assigned bench I would of course setup and remove my equipment when done.

For the record if someone setup on my assigned bench and was not their actively shooting when I arrived. I will respectfully move their equipment to the side and set up and shoot. If they have a problem with that they can come talk to me about it.

Bart

As you all know, to shoot 100 shooters on a 20 bench range takes an extremely well run match with strict attention paid to timely relay management. 120 shooters will make this even more important. Jim and his crew do this very well.
We are going to have to recognize that our practice time scheduling is just as important. Normally practice time is somewhat more casual. But I think we are going to have to be more disciplined at it. Be ready. Get on the bench and shoot. Then get off so the next shooter can test and practice. That is, be prepared to make full and productive use of the bench. That does mean no camping on the bench. And that also means, shoot on your assigned bench where you are managing how you five or six shooters are utilizing the time. Yes, you will be rotating for Sunday. But you most likely will be moving your flags to the new bench as well.
I contributed to the congestion on our bench. A shooter came and asked if he could be next up. I told him yes; assuming he was our fifth or perhaps sixth shooter. Turns out he was rotating there on Sunday. After meeting and conversing with him, I don't think he was intentionally causing disruption. But, it did cause undue congestion. For that, I apologize. As flag captain, I will try to be more proactive.

For the record, Wes and I set all of our flags on Thursday afternoon so we had no flag setting downtime on Friday. Actually, Wes did all the flag setting by himself while I sat on the bench and gave directions. Thank you Wes for all your efforts.

Sorry Bart but we won’t agree on this one. It’s a matter of a competitive attitude getting in the way of common courtesy. It does no one any good for a bench to sit unused when someone may be trying to work through an equipment problem.

The simple fact that announcements were made to remove all equipment that was not being used, so others could shoot, should tell you that you are wrong here. You have said that you purposely left your equipment on the bench.

I love you Bart but I never back down on issues of fairness and character.

Dave.

Might cause a stir here but.......Why even rotate for Sunday ??
With the swirling and changing conditions that this range can provide,
is there a real advantage or disadvantage ?? Maybe just stay on the
original assigned bench, but rotate the shooters position within that
bench. Say the first day, I'm shooter #1 ?? Come the next day I'd be
moved to another slot such as 5 or 6 ?? As always; Thinking out loud !!

The different positions of the range change from bench 5 to 15 enough that you have to rotate.

I agree. The flags up wind are the most important if you want to see how long you have to see a change before it affects your shot. Depending on the wind direction someone could have a disadvantage if they were to the side of the range where the wind was coming from and had to stay there the both days.

One other change would recommend Jim is to start day two with relay three or four instead of relay one. That way the same shooters who likely got the relay with the best conditions of the entire day, don’t have that advantage two days in a row.

Dave,

There is no lack of fairness or character how our bench was run. There was no down time on our bench. Our 5 guys through coordination were able to take turns and practice. It worked out great.

It seems to me that your problem was with your bench-mates hogging the bench. True or False? If so that’s when you grow a pair and work it out man to man.

Bart

False. I was able to shoot and verify my equipment was working. Others were not so lucky and needed to test multiple times because they were working through problems.

Bart, I’m going to drop this now because it’s really a small issue and I don’t want people to shy away from this match. I’m sure Jim will try to accommodate all suggestions. That’s what he does.

I’ll see you at the next match.

Dave.

If you didn't rotate benches, it would seem to me that practice time, flags, etc. would be much easier to manage between the shooters assigned to that bench for the weekend. If bench assignments were given out way ahead of time, it would give the batchmates plenty of time to dialogue about a practice schedule, flags, and whatever else they would deem necessary to have sorted out before the shooting starts.......KISS.....And have a HOOT............. I think this may lighten things up for the organizers as well.

Rick

The 2024 rules Jim posted state that the range is open for practice on Thursday at 12:00. That is why I asked about Friday. I'm hoping the whole day on Friday is dedicated to practice sessions. Never shot that range before. Be good to get a feel for it.
Just so everyone is clear on the practice schedule for Tack Driver 5. I have agreed to open the range at noon on Thursday 10-17 for practice and closing it at 4PM. This will allow anyone arriving between noon and 4 set set flags for Friday. The range will go hot at 9 am and stay that way only closing to change targets until 12 noon. I will then allow anyone that arrived that morning to set flags and we will go back hot at 1pm. The range will close at 3 PM on Friday to allow myself and my crew to change target backers and place new ones up. Hope this helps everyone understand exactly how Thursday and Friday will go. Thanks JC

I looked around for a location of the range and could not find it. Is there a list of local hotels to check out? I tried to search here on the site but fell short. ......Any link to redirect me would be greatly appreciated.....Thank You.
