Sweets 7.62 isn't cutting it.

Or waste no more time and order some JB Bore Cleaner. When you want all the copper out right now this is the one. No soaking, no waiting, just a little scrubbing and the copper is gone. Quick disclaimer...if you don't have a borescope you will not know when it's really all gone. However, JB will get every molecule out.

Edit: The first question you should be asking everyone who comes up with a "solution" to the copper remover question is: what kind of borescope do you own?? If they don't own one or at least have access then I wouldn't put much stock in their so-called "solution" to the problem....for the record, mine is a Hawkeye. Once upon a time before I bought the scope I too thought I had the problem solved.

Patch out foam. I left it in my barrel in three consecutive applications of about 7 to 8 hours each. It was like a mirror afterwards and back to ⅜" ½" grouping.

Edit to add. The bore had about 2500 to 2800 rounds with just basic hopps cleaning.

Depends. I have Sweets but now use Montana Extreme Copper Killer. In case's of too much copper I do the JB bore paste routine..

I have a bore scope so I can see the progress as I clean. I have a 260 with a Shaw barrel that copper fouls horrible. Also I just put together a 22-250 with Shilen SS select match barrel and have just started the barrel break in process. After wiping the barrel out with Hoppes #9 after each of the first four shots I decided to check it with my borescope. There was just a little copper fouling, the Sweets did nothing so I used some JB bore paste. The copper came out easily.

I'm looking for something that will clean the copper out of the shaw without having to spend an hour scrubbing.

Copper fouling that is. What is a good cleaner for it?

Thanks, Justin
One thing for sure is you need to remove the carbon before you can get the copper out. So use Bore Tech C4 first and then Sweets if there is any copper left. You need a bore scope to see this. Montana Copper Killer is 4% in their solution of mineral oil etc. vs. Sweets at almost 8%????.

There is one product that rapidly cleans out copper and even hard carbon quickly. It takes just a little scrubbing, but it's easy to get a bore to bare metal in about 10 minutes. Frequent use will slightly increase throat erosion.

The product is Iosso using Iosso brand hard nylon brushes.

JB will also get copper and hard carbon out, but it sometimes takes 2-3 applications to get the carbon. I have not seen increased throat erosion with JB on copper brushes.

I am more concerned about carbon fouling than copper fouling. My goal in cleaning is to get all the carbon off the lands and only have a little in the grooves. By the time I get there with the carbon there hasn't been any copper for a while.

As for chemicals, my Hawkeye borescope tells me KG-12 copper cutter works better than Eliminator on copper, but no chemical really a does well with hard carbon and I have tried many.

I would check out Frank Green's post about Iosso and other copper cleaners:

Boretech Cu+2 Copper Remover. Very bore-friendly, with no ammonia. You can use multiple applications (patches), or even leave it in overnight if necessary. It works.

Bore Tech Cu+2, non toxic - odorless - does a terrific job.

I know that ammonia based solvent have been the standard in the past for many years to remove copper but I believe that there are better products on the market now. Do you want to put a harsh ammonia solvent in your barrel?

I do

First off let me say that I tried a lot of products. From foam, to ammonia. Too many to list. Second, thing is I AM LAZY!!! I want a product that will do the work for me. I soak the barrel and go watch t.v. for awhile. Dry patch and again soak and back to the t.v. until the copper is gone. In my opinion, KG 12 is the best followed by Montana Extreme. I also use a Hawkeye borescope. The heaviest fouling is the last 4 to 6 inches from the muzzle.

As a chemical non mechanical cleaner Sweets cleans copper better than anything I have used including all the above mentioned items. Without mentioning names one of the above mentioned items gives false positive. When you think its clean of copper leave Sweets in overnite. You will more than likely get an education.I have had numerous shooters over the years bring me their clean rifle and are amazed at the patches I return to them with a clean barrel, for real clean. Yes cleaning the carbon and copper needs to be done jointly.
