barrel cleaning 223 ?

Do you guys use a separate cleaner for carbon and copper fouling ? Or is there a cleaner that does it all ?

Quick Answer: It's probably best to search and come to your own conclusions. I personally use two separate cleaners, but you could probably get away just fine with just using BoreTech Eleminator or Butches Bore Shine.

On a related note, there's a good AS article that interviews several top national shooters of BR/F-Class/HP; it's very interesting to me how much their cleaning routines/theories differ, even among top shooters in the same disciplines.

How is it possible that someone who doesn't brush at all, can beat someone who brushes every 50 rounds? Conversely, I've seen some top tier shooters on these forums openly admit to dragging bronze brushes back across their muzzle without adverse affect. For there to be such wild disparities in their approaches, to me that's somewhat of an indicator that we likely place more emphasis on cleaning routines/theories than is necessary.

That observation hasn't deterred me though; I'm still as entrenched in my own beliefs as I ever was

Gunslick Foaming Bore cleaner will do a good job removing copper and fouling. Not the best product on the market but does an adequate job, fairly inexpensive and easy to find @ Academy, Walmart, online.

I use two separate cleaners. About two years ago I made the switch from Shooter's Choice to Bore Tech cleaning products mainly because the odor from SC was bothering my wife. I was pleasantly surprise to find that not only did the odor disappear using the Bore Tech products but their cleaners were more effective.

I adopted the two part system, i.e. their C4 Carbon Remover followed by their CU+2 Copper Remover so I could use a bronze brush with their carbon remover because I believe that the mechanical action of bronze brush is more effective in removing carbon than a nylon brush. After carbon removal I use the CU+2 with a nylon brush to remove the copper.

They make a product called Eliminator that does both in one step, i.e. removes carbon and copper, but you have to use a nylon brush since the copper remover will aggressively attack a bronze brush (the C4 does also but less aggressively)

Bore Tech C4 for carbon (use with bronze brush)...Bore Tech Copper remover for copper. Every 150 rounds or so I use Iosso along with Iosso blue nylon brushes.

I hate cleaning. I think I do a serious cleaning on my rifles every several hundred rounds. But every 100 rounds or so I use the viper bore snake with the viper venom. Run it through the barrel several times and call it good. Easy Breezy.

I was using Butch's in my 223's and ended up with lots of left over copper fouling in 3 different factory barrels, even after scrubbing it with a bronze brush after every session. I would run 2-4 wet patches, let it soak for a few minutes then brush, more wet patches and then dry patches. I switched over to Hoppe's #9 BR formula after testing it on my barrels, got good results per the borescope.

Try Boretech C4 Carbon cleaner , followed by Bore Tech Cu+2 copper remover. I use patches, then a nylon brush if needed.
Don't rush it, if you can't get it clean, then leave in overnight, repeat until it comes clean.

Extremely dirty or carbon filled bores may need a cleaning with JB Bore cleaner. After that, clean often enough then you won't have to use the JB.
