Springfield 2020 Rimfire opinions?

This gun has been hammered before it was out. It is a $400.00 gun. A friend of mine has one. It is a well made gun. We put it thru it's paces. I was getting just under MOA at 50yds and 100yds, with SK long range.
In that case you need shoot it in competition. That would make for nice conversation at the next ARA, NRL, or rimfire F class match

I got one free when i bout a 2020 waypoint centerfire. I have only taken it out once. Shot bulk federal ammo through it. It was ok for me with a 3x9 scope on it. I know its no benchrest rifle but its not bad.

JimSC,
Let it go. You and others have been after this gun from the start. I just don't know why you and others are piling on this gun. It is not a competition gun. It is like any other $300 to $400 gun. Why not go after every other $400.00 guns. Springfield is not saying it is a 1/4" gun, they are saying it is 2 MOA gun. Let it go!

Is Springfield out to get the gun also? Springfield's guarantee is 3 shots at 50 yards in a inch or 3 shots within 2 inches at 100 yards. That is how it performed for me, at 50 at least never shot it at 100 I even had a few groups that had 4 shots within an inch. Damn near got 5 on one with the Eley Black box but it measured out to about 1 1/4 inch. Even that would have been a possible wounding shot or miss on a squirrel or rabbit if I had been hunting with it

From experiance I could take just about any $300 - 400 Savage and get consistent .75 -1.0 five shot groups . Most off the shelf Ruger 10 - 22's can do the same. Oh , and the guy who bought the Springfield paid more for it than I paid for my CZ 457 MTR. In fact he could have probably found a used Anshutz 54 for what he paid for it with a little looking and patience

What did he paid for the springfield 20/20 rf? I own both the springfield 20-20 and the CZ 457 MTR and I don't know where you found a CZ 457 for $339.00 plus tax but please let me know I'll buy a few for christmas gifts. Looking forward to your info on the CZ.

You might try read my post again. I stated he bought the one with the fancy walnut stock, the one that sells for close to 4 figures. Nor did I say anywhere in my posts that you could find a CZ for less than $ 475. What I did say is that I can get a $350 Ruger 10 22 Sporter that will shoot better and Buds currently sells a wood stocked Savage Arms Mark II BTV for the same price which is also capable of shooting five round groups of 1 MOA with CCI and Norma ammo. I owned one for a while.

I did and in your post you stated that you could buy the fancy walnut stock 20-20 for $300.00 so again where can you buy a CZ 457 for $300.00?????

from post #20. Reading comprehension is a valuable skill. To be fair though I doubt if I would have paid $300 for it if he would have offered it at that price. I have no queens in my safes and inaccurate rifles are boring and frustrating

I tried Lapua, SK, and Eley black in it and would think OK this is the ammo then the next round would be an inch out. I wasted 40 rounds in my buddies rifle before I handed it back to him. He offered to sell it to me for $300 less than he paid and I (not very) politely declined..

edit - just to be clear his was over $1000 with tax

I posted in #19. I got the 2020 to shot MOA at 50yds and 100yds. way below the 2 MOA the factory guarantee The owner could not get that level of accuracy. I am seasoned long range shooter and can reach that level of accuracy. The average shooter can not reach that level of shooting due to the lack of shooting fundamentals, shooting setup, gun handling, wind reading, ammo they are using, and so on. That is why Springfield has the 2 MOA guarantee.

Your friend got a $300 gun in a $700 stock, it is still a $300 shooter, He should have got a CZ MTR
As far as $300 -$400 Savage getting 0.75" to 1.00" That is 1.50 MOA to 2 MOA

I am a ARA and rated centerfire F class I was able to shoot below the factory guarantee of three round groups at 50 using Lapua CX and Eley black box. The problem is the unofficial standard for rimfire is 5 round groups of less than an inch not three round groups. It was the 4th and 5th shots that are the issue. The rifle just isn't consistent from shot to shot and to me that means it is not even good to use as a squirrel gun. No ones want to wound or miss game because the rifle decided to throw a flyer.

I had a thumbhole Savage for a couple of months and try as I may I could not quite get it up to ARA factory standards but that little Savage could do headshots on tree rats all day long with it's 1.5 MOA accuracy.. My son in law has it now and loves it Ruger and Savage both make rifles that shoot better for less money thatn even the cheapest Springfield rimfire.

Springfield needs to cut it's losses, sell or give away whatever is in the warehouse and have their design crew take their centerfire action and make a rimfire bolt and bottom metal for it. Have marketing bump the price to sell just below the ARA factory limit and go after the CZ/Tikka shooters. I know they could do it but not with this design. Don't worry about Claro walnut stocks just make a rifle that shoots 1 MOA or less for 25 shots and people will buy it

I ran into a deal at a LGS, buy a 2020 Springfield centerfire and get a 2020 rimfire free $2000. Maybe they get rid of them that way.
