I have a 20/20 springfield and a CZ 457 the 20/20 is a very good rifle I took the time to remove the barrel and lap it until I liked what I saw with the bore scope adjusted the trigger down to 15oz and when to the range shot 7 difference 22 loads eley, lapua, cci, sk, it ended up liking eley club and cci SV the rifle will shoot sub moa at 50 yds and 100 yds with an occasional cold bore or a lite load the cost of the 20/20 was under 450.00 the way I have the 20/20 setup I’m all in at 970.00 that includes the scope, tuner and rifle the CZ is also a very good rifle and shoots sub moa with eley tenex , semi-auto br precision and some SK with the same occasional flyer as the 20/20 the trigger on the CZ after adjusting and adding the yodave spring is at 12oz and the all in cost for rifle,419 rail, bolt knob, scope and yodave spring is 1300.00 IMO you can’t go wrong with either one but trying to compare we’re not talking oranges and apples or talk in dollars and cents, but I believe for the cart at either one you’re getting your moneys worth I hope this helps.
Good Shooting

so a simple barrel lapping is all it takes to make the rifle shoot consistent 5 round groups at 50 Yards? I wonder why Springfield would not do that before shipping them. What method did you use?

You should post this over at Rimfire Central on the Springfield thread, there are a lot of people who would be interested in your results

Been following this thread very interesting. If I could be guaranteed to get a piece of wood for the msrp price I would be all over it. No matter if it shot sub MOA or MOA. I could live with it. But if you must have a accurate rifle , I say buy once cry once. That is why I have a few Anschutz rifles to shoot. YMMV

a couple of other questions on the lapping. What did you see that made you decide to lap it and did you slug the barrel before and afterwards? If so was it even from throat to muzzle or did you find high spots? Was it tighter toward the muzzle? Some bore scope pics of the before would be good

I had my hands on one a week ago.
I already have projects and don’t need another.
The price point is good for a full size adult rifle. The one I looked at had the polymer stock. It was gonna need some work for me.
I would imagine the 10/22 mag did it in for ever having a food print that would work in existing stocks.
I could see me owning one in a nice sleek sporter with good lumber on it.

I will stick with my junky Bergara. It has shot extremely well, but I dislike the carbon fiber barrel. Balance is odd if not weird.

About a month ago, I bought a Springfield 2020 .22 in wood stock model and got it because the stock had classic lines . Even though it was not the AAA version, it had a nice straight grain walnut stock. ( possibly a AA model). I mounted a 4x16 scope. Adjusted the Remington like trigger to 2 pounds. I could not get the trigger lighter, but for a sporter I could live with it. My silhouette spotters all have 2 pound triggers. I like a lot of things about the gun. The Ruger-22 style rotary clip works great. Out of a brick of various ammo, no feeding issues and no ejection problems. The trigger is wide, giving your finger a stable feeling, at least to me. Also, the rifle does not shave lead.I especially like the size of the bolt, which is straight down from the receiver. The dimensions of the rifle are about like 2 of my more expensive rifles, a Cooper and a Kimber,so my cheek weld was familiar. After cleaning the rifle, I tested various Sk, Eley, and RWS brands of ammo. Sadly, the rifle doesn’t want to easily shoot 1/2 inch at 50 yards like most other sporters I own and this was a heart break because I really like the rifle’s overall characteristics. But it will shoot 1/2 with a couple grades of ammo. So, what to do??
Further testing beyond a brick of ammo is needed. I’ve never had too many sporters which wouldn’t easily do 1/2 inch at 50 yards. The Tikkas and CZ rifles outshoot the Springfield by considerable margin, but they are not classic styled in lovely wood. I really don’t know of any classic stocked ,wood .22s out there for well under 1K. One option I’m considering is rebarreling to a .17 Mach ll, since that caliber is not readily available and it would be a hoot in a squirrel gun. Anyhow, the photo of the Springfield sporter with outstanding wood shows this model is available to those who appreciate this style. I sure do. Is it for sale?
Pictures show Cooper on top, then Kimber, Cooper, Sako

Meant to say the photo previously shown… not my rifle

A .22 loving friend of mine who has many high grade unlimited rifles bought the target model Springfield 2020. With a bore scope, he could clearly see that the barrel was very bad. Thus, he returned the rifle. The second rifle also had issues, but he accepted it. He is also having trouble getting it to shoot. If you can get one into the store, a bore scope will tell the tale oftentimes.

Mel, Fell your Pain........
Over on Rim Fire this story goes on and on also.
To you your stock love. Lot of CZ457 get Stock Refinish jobs and look Custom ?
I have a couple that flat shoot. Plus Barrel switching is easy.
I have one that goes from .22 to 17HRM a Hoot.

I just bought one of the 2020s and took it to the range and shot a few cards with it. Was not as good as any of my Unlimited rifles and even my cheap ass Anschutz 5430 shot better than the 2020! Then I found the bore was not up to the standards of my Mueller, Shilen Ratchet or Benchmark rifles either. After examination with my scanning electronic microscope there were easily detected burrs in the machine work too! On the highest resolution the burrs looked really big.. and ugly too!. Effing unbelievable! What kind of operation are they running over at Springfield? I am so pissed I think I will ask for my money back. I am so terribly disappointed! I real really really expected more for my $2.98 rifle.

Living the dream, great advice. Every Cz I owned or shot was sub1/2 at 50 yards. The Cz 457 American is a lovely rifle with great trigger that shoot’s wonderfully. I had to buy the Springfield. I’m a junkie!

I would want my money back

I just bought one last week, It was the Target model, Shot a couple hundred rounds through it to check it out, would put 2 or 3 shots in 1 hole and then 2 flyers, Took it to my rimfire smith and he bore scoped it and the rifling looks as good as any other factory gun I have, Crown was a little suspect, Chamber mas loose and getting carbon build up, A .046 no-go gauge closes with no problem showing excessive headspace, Like the rifle so well that I'm having him set it back and put a 52D chamber in and recrown it, It shot about as well as they advertise with good ammo, Will have to see what it does when it gets back...
