Springfield 2020 Rimfire opinions?

So I like the looks of the new Springfield 2020 Rimfire, with the higher end walnut stocks, but I have really read much in the way of real world reviews or experiences with them or the platform in general. I've heard from a small handful of " gun writers" that they ( the rifle) are either lack luster, or that they perform reasonably well. I've even watch a couple of YouTube reviews with the same general outcomes... What I haven't heard is about the experiences with the rifle, from people who actually shoot for accuracy. Does anyone have any experience the the 2020 Rimfire platform? If so how did it perform over an extended period of time? I know the trigger sucks, but that can easily be remedied.
Pleas share your opinions and experiences....
Regards, Eric

I always forget about Rimfire Central lol.

I don't care for rimfire central. It's too hard to sort through the crowd to find the few who really know. Almost everyone there talks about buying a new gun and "testing" it. But mainly this: I posted trying to get people to send in comments on the a recent proposed ATF rule that could affect us all. They took my post down and said it was political. I don't support those who won't stand up for our rights.

They have Rules just as this Site has.
I have had Posts removed here for being part of a Political Statement, I only gave a reply ??????

RIMFIRE CENTRAL is for us rimfire enthusiasts who like everything rimfire. Been a member there for quite awhile. Lot of people there that are in the know and willing to help and give good information about guns ,mounts, and optics. They do remove posts once in awhile but it is usually for good reasons. They are sticklers for people trying to sell their guns in a thread to a person in a discussion. If you have something to sell post it in the classifieds section that is what it is there for.As far as political stuff never see it I guess that is why they remove it forum policy.

If we can't all work together as firearms enthusiasts to save the freedoms we have, then we are sunk. I posted the same notice here and it was allowed. There was nothing political in the words - it was simply a request to take the time to comment.

I would respond more, but I have to go test a rifle.

I have the 2020 target model. I gave the bore a lapping with JB paste then coated with lock-ease. Adjusted the trigger to 3 lb and set the action screws to 19 in-lb. I shot several brands of ammo ( not match ammo) to see what it shot best and ended up with Aguila 38 grain super extra H.V. bulk box. I expect flyers with bulk ammo and am satisfied with this 10 shot group at 50 yards.

What was the group size with the flyers?

Not sure if it's Kosher to post links for other forums. But there is a thread on RFC in the miscellaneous-other rimfire section with nearly 800 posts in it about the 2020.

Every review I have seen on the rifle shows 3 - 4 in a tight group followed by one or two flyers. Here is a link to Dauntless Endeavors. He bought one and tested it, found it gave him flyers, which every video review I have seen shows, so he set the barrel back and rechambered it. That managed to tighten the groups up somewhat but it still is not a target rifle. Plinker and small game yes, ARA benchrest forget it.

part1

But back to the Springfield, they're accuracy guarantee of 1" at 50 yards doesn't really impress me.
that's for a 3-round group. Don't plan on finding out myself. Too many bad reviews out there. My gut is that the way that it throws flyers has something to do with the design of the bottom metal and the stock not providing enough or the right support for the action

There are better plinkers out there for the money as well as better hunting rifles and I am pretty sure one will never win the ARA Nationals

Man this is disappointing to read. I was just reading about it in the latest issue of American Rifleman and really liked the looks of that rifle. I have way more rimfires than I need already but I have a soft spot for beautiful rifles. The one Springfield waypoint rifle I worked up a load for didn't impress me either as far as accuracy went but it was pretty too.

Just like any other internet forum.

I'm a longtime fan of RFC - not because everyone who posts over there is an expert, but because there are some really knowledgeable guys when it comes to certain brands of rifles that I'm interested in. There's also generally some good info on where to get certain, generally hard to find parts. I sometimes feel like somewhat of a geek when it comes to being interested in 22RF firearms, so when the forum boss here created this Rimfire & Smallbore forum, it was good for me - same over on the Hide. But when I really want in immerse myself in RF guns & shooting, or I've got questions about a collectable RF rifle, I just head on over to RFC & dive in.

Take everything on Rimfire Central with a grain/bag of salt. We all can be opinionated, but I have seen many posters there that will berate others if they have different experiences, to the point of being nasty. Some believe if they can't do it, it can't be done.

This gun has been hammered before it was out. It is a $400.00 gun. A friend of mine has one. It is a well made gun. We put it thru it's paces. I was getting just under MOA at 50yds and 100yds, with SK long range.

I had a chance to shoot one a few weeks back. My opinion has not changed. it is a nice looking gun that shoots like crap compared to most .22's available. A buddy of mine saw one at a local gunstore. It had the grade A walnut stock and he fell in love with the wood. Unfortunately his shoots just like every Youtube video I have seen of them.

I tried Lapua, SK, and Eley black in it and would think OK this is the ammo then the next round would be an inch out. I wasted 40 rounds in my buddies rifle before I handed it back to him. He offered to sell it to me for $300 less than he paid and I (not very) politely declined.. Not sure if he has sold his or not but if you want I will ask him. It does have a nice stock. I would love to have that nice of wood on a CZ or Tikka but I don't have room in my gunsafe for rifles that cannot do a 5 shot 1 inch group at 50 yards with premium ammo shot off a benchrest setup. Eight groups at 50 and my best might have been a inch and a quarter. Every group had at least one of those flyers

Just a personal opinion here but there is nothing that can be done for these rifles. The receivers design is not stiff enough with the design of the bottom metal. If you want a pretty rifle to shoot empty cans with it is a great choice. Otherwise there are better shooting rifles even below the Springfields price point. I could not recommend it for hunting small game in fear one of it's flyers would simply wound the target and the target would run off and suffer
