Special Varmint Rigg's Let's See EM! and Tell Us Why? Not Favorites, but SPECIAL!

That was like pulling my own teeth, thank you, the mystery is over! I could not tell what it was but a pink stock, and something in a chassy. I had one chassy, I'll never own another. But that is all personal preference. I have never seen one of those actions, but I only shoot short and long range Benchrest, no Fclass or PRC experience. There are a lot of good actions out there, but if it being used by the big boys in those sports, the wanna bees don't try anything new.

Be nice to know the caliber of both them rifles. I was not being rude, just to most they were just pictures of guns, and I don't think anyone had a clue of what other than rifles? But thanks for the info, it's starting to come together now. Nice rig, let us know the calibers and cartridges? Unless their Crudmores,,, ;)

Hmmm. Mkaayyy.

22bra Ackley. 8 twist for 62 ELD-VT.

(Btw, the most popular varmint cartridge I am chambering these days BY FAR is the 22 Creedmoor. It is essentially a 22-250Ack (which the 22-250 is essentially no longer in production in any real numbers). I am not sure it is Crud.... but like you said, some people don't like anything new.

Those are sweet chuckshooter, Always wanted a Martini action to build a varmint rifle on. I like that Vartarg in 20 cal that would be interesting. I bought dies and brass for Hornet with one in mind but have never owned one.

I thought about building a Martini on a K-Hornet, I even bought a mold that poured 50 flat nose GC bullets, for reduced loads for hunting rabbit and squirrel. your post brings back some of that desire, those Martinis are becoming more and more Special!
this was a 22k hornet., but I never like the performance, so now it's a .20 ackley hornet. this is my favorite. 14grs of powder and a killing machine in the rat patch.

Maybe they never tried a 6.5x47 Lapua case???

One thing is for sure, brass is not hard to find for anything on that case.

That's interesting that you say that because Lapua stopped making that brass last year.

I shoot the 6Xc and the 22 XC which is basically a 6x48.
It's EVRYWHERE you look, Alpha, Hornady, Starline, Peterson, Major MFG, Gunwerks, Sig Sauer, Nosler, etc, and most is available about anywhere you look. I would say Lapua stopped tho get caught up on other priorities. Lately 6BR, 220 Russian, 243 Win, 6.5 pRC, 300 PRC, even that Crudmoore in 6 and 6.5, I see is redily available in Lapua. I even just took in another 100 rnds of 8x57 and 200 rounds of 30-06 in Lapua.

Were getting our options back up there. But I'd say there will be runs in the future, but till then, no shortage of supply, I don't think even when everything else was dried up, the creed stuff was still easy to get. I'm pretty stocked up on everything I would have any interest in, but I never ran clear out of any of it, planning ahead is key!

But planning ahead is whole lot easier at my age, like lifetime warranties, they mean a lot different thing to me today, pretty easy to cover that too,,,,, ;)

I have to many to have a real favorite. The last couple of years this little LVSF in 17 Remington has turned off the lights of quite a few rockchucks, coyotes, and pdogs. Scope is a Sightron Big Sky 4-16.
Haven't seen that one before. Show the 17TC.

They're special because they're mine & made for the PD fields:

They look special to me. Built the way you want them to do what you want them to do. That's special, and without an essay length dissertation.

It;s not Butter, I call it Parkay,,,,,, ;)

Finally my long awaited 257 AI just got the final touches. This one started as an Idea, a Walnut stock, but Laminated, I know laminated stocks are stiffer than solid wood blanks. But I ran by Fred, "what if we took one made from Walnut, Known for it's stiffness and strength, besides being one of the least moisture absorbing woods, and turned every other layer 90 degree to the layer beside it? His answer was sounds good, but I can't tell you how it would look? I told him then, stiffer was the main goal, light weight, as well as stable! If looks were an issue, I'd paint it Kandy Blueberry. The rifle itself started life as 2 walnut blanks, and the rest from this donor, a New Youth model Axis in Muddy Girl camo, as a 223 with NO BOLT.

So we answered those questions last year, and at the same time Put in an order for a Brux 28" .257" 1-10 twist HV barrel. I also ordered a new 257 AI reamer. The long wait was worth it, I don't think I'll be painting it anytime soon! Finished at 26" with 6-1/4" flutes, beginning 2.5" from the muzzle, and running to 4" from the receiver. On a bushed Bolt with small firing pin, tuned ignition and blueprinted and timed action. With a very special Axis trigger, only 5 were ever made by Sharp Shooter Supply, this rifle uses one of them. It finished W/ the Sightron moa Lighted reticle 8-32x50 LRP scope including 4" sunshade, at 12lbs 12oz.

This is the only stock I know of built this way in Walnut. Maybe because after it was finished I wanted to make one for a sporter and got a NO! Way to many man hours and material, mainly man hours Fred said. Besides using two blanks to complete one stock, but a lot of sawdust for filler, as well as the very special Custom Axis trigger, this is one of my most special rifles, and one that will be hear my for grandson someday!

This is probably my last Varmint rifle, at my age if it see's enough rounds to take the throat out, we have 3 3/4" to set it back without getting into the fluting. But for now it's the only stock like this I know of, and after Fred testing it on his deflection table, it one of the stiffest he has tested, way stiffer than the Birch laminates, which are also light and stiff, as well as low on moisture absorption compared to most other woods.

My pickup / coyote and other targets of opportunity rifle - Cooper model 21 Classic in 223 shooting a 40 gr V-Max or Nosler BT @ 3700 fps. I have lost count of how many coyotes, badgers, PD's, and gophers it has accounted for.

Sorry for the poor quality picture -
Cooper model 21 Varmint in 223 Rem
For colony vamints (PD's & gophers) this is the one that has had the most use - it is on it's fourth barrel (about 7500 - 8000 rds per barrel). Deadly accurate and is like an old friend when I pick it up.

No good pics of any of my stable. I am not prejudice 17-20-22-6mm.
I wish now I had scraped some $$ together as a just out of high school kid and had Ray Smith build me a 17 back then, early 80’s. I was in my early 50’s before I ever tried one. Things and understanding of the 17’s have came a long way today.
I got back into varmints and varmint rifles after a long dry spell. Used 527’s as a test platform on cartridges, then went on to build them the way I wanted. I used several Savage actions, along with Cooper, Zermatt, American Rifle Company, Remington, Howa mini and Shilen.
I like my varmint bench guns heavy, so most are full bull or HV taper.
The savage actions all sport Choate stocks, yeah pretty ugly, but I fill all of the empty cavities with #12-9 shot, a 35+ lb 17 Remington is a pure pleasure.
Finally after some procrastination, I got a 30 cal Paladin can. I gave it a torture test last year.
If you don’t have a “can” you owe it to yourself to get one.
Do your homework. There are a couple of multi caliber rigs out there that I would go with.

Y’all have some nice rigs. Waiting another few weeks to get to the load bench and get to work. Spring will be here before we know it.

This is my latest build, special to me. I've hunted ground hogs with my father and grandfather for over 3 decades. Throughout that time my pops and I built and changed many guns but my grandfather for as long as I can remember only had the one gun, a customized 700 in 6mm remington.

He would only put it on paper if he began to miss shots, but still by our account had well over 1k rounds on the gun. The gun truly signified my grandfather to me, many fun hunts and good times with him and the gun. From hunting in pa down to North Carolina.

After he passed i kept the action and his squirrel rifle scope (an old gloss leupold 4.5x14), building 6.5x47 carry rifle . . . I do have some videos, attached is one for sure back when Carl (poppy) was still shooting it, in sure i have more but i honestly only uploaded the videos back then for friends and family to watch so if you want, click through the others, he might be in there. Search potatoe or arch007er, that's what I'd upload with. . .

Another member offered his reamer as pac nor did not have the 0fb I wanted and after talking with this member we agreed to use his reamer. This rifle I will pass onto my son and so far just with one break in load I tried it’s grouping them amazingly
This is my first time ever having a aftermarket barrel put on any rifle
