So .. .22 Creedmore in an Ar10

Okie dokie sorry forgot to add some closing notes ,till I'm able to mess with this again in a few weeks
Was told one of the main issues would be similar to, what I was being told would happen with the .22 -250 in an AR10 ( yes I did a AR10 in .,22 250 and documented everything, I've been told that post is a good read lol ) and I would have rounds nose diving into the barrel extension. I had ZERO issues with this happing using my PMAG.... My metal mag however...

Only thing I could guess is I had lower angle then my PMAG .... Which again is kinda funny because I'm also getting told Pmags are terrible .... Idk many mine is a unicorn?

I have nothing to add other than I am really enjoying your thread and seeing not only the build but the loading and troubleshooting that goes along with a new build. =)

The velocity I was getting . An this is still a lower middle of the road charge... Not to mention that 20" barrel really ate some velocity

Brass actually doesn't look terrible with with fact most of it was baking around the inside of the BCG
IMG_20251210_223044346.jpg
I did switch to a standard A2 bird cage because holy crap that muzzle break had me with a headache and feeling all ....weird after ten rounds. If anyone as a recommendation for a break in the sub $50 range that wont give me a headache if appropriate it lol.

And also ! Forgot about this but noticed after about 40rd I was getting these little brass shavings in the mag well
IMG_20251210_170823863.jpg
Would kinda explain what was with a all those scuff marks on my brass but it wasn't a lot of them so...I'm not sure. Also this is probably the worst pics I had . Forgot what happened but yeah...skinned it
IMG_20251210_170706841.jpgIMG_20251210_170659841.jpg
But I think a lot of that was due to the over gassing so we'll see when I'm able to come back tho this
But yeah that's all I got for now will probably be able to get some actual load workup done around the 3rd..mabye actually gonna be home for modern rifle season and since I got all these animal pens done will actually try and get out more then a few mornings lol

Omg
The minute I saw that guy actually increasing the gas port ..
I laughed .
Wtf kinda idiot doesn't realize the pressure already created by a massively over bored round is already needing a superlative arms gas block to decrease and manage it ?

Buy a superlative arms gas block
I mean in all fairness I was about to do the same also when you call the guy who made your barrel and they give you a suggestion on what to do..... And again like I said , just watching it at First I legit though I was somehow under gassed .

I'm glad i'm glad to see you're enjoying that barrel.I just purchased two of them and built up two coyote rifles

Do yourself a favor and buy a six creedmore sizing die

That way you could use 308 brass, use the six first then the six point five and then the twenty two

And you will not have any issues with your brass

Buy some pure lanolin and a bottle off of amazon and put it in a spray bottle with isopropyl alcohol and shake it up really good. And spray your brass with that. And you will not have any issues

I worked up a starter load, and I was shooting half m o a so those barrels are fully capable
Don't tell me to do that, already looking at either getting a 6 or .25 Creedmore next , having the dies on hand will just be the final excuse lol.

Man I appreciate that ! I grew up reading posts like this just guys posting builds and all there trials and stuff to get it to work. used to LOVE them ! But the sadly gone the way side in recent years ... Everyone wants to be the best expert and never show mistakes or the process anymore... So I just try and post some of what I wish I'd see more lol

Trust me, getting a six creed or a twenty five will do nothing but put smiles on your face.

Those shavings are from those metal magazines. The lips need to be polished
They are hell on brass

Save your $$$ and after the 1st of the year
Buy yourself a can ..

You need one or 6 lol

Nobody should be shooting without them anymore.

Get an AB Warthog in 30 cal..
Or and Aero Lahar L ...

They are priced very nicely, and they are both top notch performers.

The twenty 22 250 in an a r ten configuration will always give you problems until you fine tune the mags ..

Due to the differences in case dimension
All of the creedmore, families are based off of the 308 winchester cartridge

Should be smooth sailing with all of those for you

Actually funny enough my 22-250 has been just a friggen dream. No seriously I've purposely been trying to make it fail an it just keep chugging along. I've had more issues with this creed in the first 50rd then I've had in my 250 in close to ...idk 175 so far IDK if I found a unicorn or what

Well here's the deal that's I only ran two round though that metal mag ....well one really before I decided to scrap that idea and it's was a good many of them so it can be from the mag, because well the pmag are polymer so not sure about what's going on there . As far as a can...idk never had a ton of interest in them . I might though but just seem to be one of those deal when you get there's just more dirt, more gassing issues ect

If you want to improve brass life and have the gun more reliably, I would suggest trying to mimic the type of data Hodgdon releases for service rifles in 308. Also a bit lighter bullet and a little faster powder also tends to reduce the gas port pressure and improves case life.

If you are using Hornady data, their max loads are pretty hot and definitely for bolt guns only. My max load was at book max using N560 was a bit hot, and I backed it down around 0.8 gr for summer in a BOLT gun. That would be absolutely wrecking brass in a semi.

In terms of feeding I would stick with PMAGs. Also you have to sometimes tinker with OAL either longer or shorter to optimize feeding. This is not a problem with 22-250, 243, and 260 because they share the shallower shoulder angle of the 308. The Creed family has a steeper shoulder and not all bullet/magazine combos will feed OK.

If you want a cheap but effective muzzle break the Miculek comp works really well, but is really loud. I would save your pennies and get a direct thread suppressor, they are getting cheaper and cheaper and are worth every cent.

Hey Wolfdog, cool project ya got goin' there! I almost did a .22 Middlestead, a .22-243 with a 30 deg. shoulder, but ended up going .22-250 for my Armalite. I have about 1300ish rounds on it, 3 prairie dog trips. Went with a +5 gas system. Easy on brass, functions near flawless. I wish the barrel makers would do proper gas port locations for these alternate cartridges. A long time ago, a guy who claims to have apprenticed under Eugene Stoner, told me that for .308 based derivatives in 7mm add 1 in., for 6.5mm add 2 in., for 6mm add 3 and for .22 add 4-5 in. to the rifle length gas port location for AR10's. As for your brass shaving, you might want to try trimming feed lips. It looks like the belly is getting jammed into the bottom of the chamber mouth while the shoulder it against the top because the mag still has hold of the tail. I built a .45 Raptor upper and had the same issue. The picture below shows how I trimmed the feed lips compared to the stock mag on the right. Mine are B-Armalite mags but the concept is the same. Good luck and carry on!AR10Mags.jpg
