22-250 AR10... because I want problems

Welp got the brass all prepped did some moths and made up some dummys. Seems for smooth chambering and ejecting there gonna be roughly.006 off the lands ... No some of that is probably still just the rifle breaking in and belong rough in the star chamber but we can always play with it more
IMG_20251003_220445611.jpgIMG_20251004_234145108.jpgIMG_20251004_234154759.jpgIMG_20251004_234238037.jpg

All right all right all right , got a lil time today so LOAD TESTING!
So since this thing runs faster out the gap then 95% of my lil arsenal I'm just gonna go with the book and work my way up. With AR's unusual start middle or upper lower end and work my way up due to the gas system and usually shorter barrels taking a lot of juice ..but .. again then thing is running like 3600 at the staring load so

So gonna start out with gonna run the 40gr vmax one , become eveyone and there mom says 35-45 GR is where it's at for .22-250....aannnd two I have three boxes for some reason lol
And next for a 55gr SP for anyone who wanted to see that comparison, for ... science I guess lol
full-34110-270876-img_20251006_203112757.jpg
Running accurate 2460 and honestly... I usually really hate anything other than a stick powder ...but something about this I kinda like .. stuff meeters like dang water .
full-34110-270877-img_20251006_150638539.jpg
Not a lot of case fill though .... Wild S-D are coming I can tell already lolfull-34110-270878-img_20251006_145905646.jpg
And a close up of the powder itself
full-34110-270879-img_20251006_150720460.jpg
And like I said in one of my earlier posts worked out a customer COAl/ C TO...found where the bullet was roughly hitting the rifling , backed it up 0.003" and then some more to facilitate an ease of un chambering. So now we're like 0.006 off the lands .more jump then I like but prefer a lil jump vs possibly getting a chamber full of powder because the bullet was too close for caught in the lands and popped out ..been there done that. And loving this lee micrometer
full-34110-270880-img_20251006_150830289.jpg

And since it's going in a AR10 with. I much bullet actually int he neck....check it not much at allfull-34110-270881-img_20251006_150933893.jpg
gave them just a light kiss of a crimp..just to keep everything in place.. tried to measure and got like .002-.003 worth of crimp
.... Swear those lil red tips seated out kinda long...SEXY LOL
full-34110-270882-img_20251006_164411626.jpg
And the set up...same as usual, bipod rear bag bench
And yes I'm running the Magento. Yes I doing load development with it . I do more of the Cortina method where my velocity takes a bit bigger if a role then group size . Also testing for factory shows this gun isn't super finicky with it so there that. Anyhow I need to my numbers and if something looks really good velocity wise but not group I'll pop it off and revisit it
full-34110-270883-img_20251006_155625899.jpg
Ok ok running straight from the mag
full-34110-270884-img_20251006_160422865.jpg
Was actually super curious if my reload would finally give me some feeding issues so racked the first one dropped the mag carefully took the round out and inspected it...aannnd nothing I could see
full-34110-270885-img_20251006_160623383.jpgfull-34110-270887-img_20251006_160636613.jpg

full-34110-270888-img_20251006_160653939.jpgfull-34110-270889-img_20251006_160734481.jpg

And shooting , shots where made in groups of five @100yd...no real rhythm or anything just squeezed when I felt good about the shot. After five rounds I'd left the bolt open and go load the next five got a consistent 3:30-4:30 ejection pattern and the recoil was STUPID light ! I mean make a no sense lol.
Can see the brass at the lower right here
full-34110-270890-img_20251006_161236609.jpg
Anyway groups
full-34110-270893-image_cropper_1759799904636.jpgfull-34110-270894-image_cropper_1759800111719.jpg

Now I don't get a velocity on the very first group because I was still getting the Chrono tuned in but with our 20" barrel we where getting roughly 250-300fps less then what the book said Soo I'd say our start load was probably 3300fps... Which I gotta say is kinda crazy that , THAT is counted as slow lol. But yeah there test rifle was a 26" bolt gun soooo
full-34110-270895-img_20251006_202857988.jpg
Also I did switch to smaller targets on the second set. Went for 2" orange stickers to 1" . Thought it might help a lil
full-34110-270896-img_20251006_172311494.jpg
O and finally made a lil stand instead of messing with cardboard boxes lol
full-34110-270897-img_20251006_171426651.jpgfull-34110-270898-img_20251006_171433891.jpg
Also on my last two groups ..
Idk what happened with the first shots . I squeezed them off and they both just felt wrong. Like I was watching bullet impacts on all the others but those two ....idk
Anyhow I tossed them as flyers but here's what the groups look like with them....who with us information what you may lol
full-34110-270899-image_cropper_1759800189190.jpgfull-34110-270900-image_cropper_1759800262902.jpg

Guess I'll be the first one to mention this: You are doing great and glad to see you're having fun with all these projects you get into but if you really want to shoot groups (and it seems that you like shooting them), you really need more magnification on the upper end with your optics! Even a 25 power or 32 will cut your groups in half vs the 16x that you are using. 16x is fantastic for banging steel but your point of hold is likely the same size as your grouping on target with that low of a power. I'd be REALLY excited to see your results with a higher power zoomie ;)

Ok last deal for a while . Decided that though there cool.... Super fast lil bitty varmint bullets don't really do much for me . I don't really do anything like shooting ground squirrels or prairie dogs soooo something a lil less.... explode-y would be better lol. And with he 1:14 twist I'm about topped out with 55gr bullets... THOUGH apparently people have luck with 60's .
Anyhow my two options are
full-34110-271007-img_20251007_125107236 (1).jpg
And decided to go with he slick slider
ones ... because....idk I like how non cannulated bullets look
full-34110-271008-img_20251007_125152065.jpg
And going for the next powder I bought for this project
full-34110-271009-img_20251007_125831764.jpg
Case fill is till below the shoulder a bit.. and staring out with a hight charge for starting just because where loosing an average of 300fps from book
full-34110-271010-img_20251007_125554654.jpgfull-34110-271011-img_20251007_125841725.jpg
And a custom COAL/CBTOfull-34110-271012-img_20251007_131149794.jpg

And the same deal as beforefull-34110-271013-img_20251007_141814619.jpg
full-34110-271016-screenshot_20251008_090507.png
And nothing really special happened, the S-D was much lower across the board still super light shooting
full-34110-271067-image_cropper_1759944635337.jpg

Pretty gross imo... Not the worst I've seen but .... Yeah gross lol

But... Also did a mag test. Most of the people with problems ( WHO ACTUALLY POSTED PICTURES) seemed to be using these straight SR25 style mags. Picked one of these up at bass pro
full-34110-271070-img_20251007_142931890.jpgfull-34110-271069-img_20251007_142924969.jpg
full-34110-271074-img_20251007_143142848.jpg

Thought this could be the problem because it was kinda a common issue with 6.5 Grendel and 7.62 x39 till the started making the slightly curved mags.
And as you see my PMAG is kind curved
full-34110-271075-img_20251007_141803817.jpg
And a little side by side
full-34110-271073-img_20251007_143200444.jpg
Now not the best test because I can't fully load the mag up with 10rd... because I only give five rounds left soooo.... But it's something
full-34110-271013-img_20251007_141814619.jpg
Also how the rounds sit
full-34110-271076-img_20251007_143146663.jpgfull-34110-271075-img_20251007_141803817.jpg

Ok now the rest .... It's basically the same thing I've been doing . Insert mag , rip the bolt back and see what happens
full-34110-271077-screenshot_20251008_083226.pngfull-34110-271078-screenshot_20251008_193034.pngfull-34110-271079-screenshot_20251008_083954.png
And y'all....she just ate
full-34110-271125-screenshot_20251009_100153.pngfull-34110-271126-screenshot_20251009_100214.pngfull-34110-271127-screenshot_20251009_100230.png

And just ran out staring load but
full-34110-271081-image_cropper_1759944731017.jpg

So.... Again idk if I got a lemon or what because I just have no had any issues yet ... Idk man might do some more with it in a month or two but that it for now

You know I've been told that before and actually did go up in mage for a bit ..but honestly I found myself freaking out which the reticle move around while on target....idk I might try again oen of these day but seems to find myself dialing back to 12-14 most of the time

Have you been watching the "ring" marking develop on the case body? I think you may need a bit heavier buffer or turn the gas down a little. I would do some seating testing, shorten the coal in increments of 0.010. See if you can move to a group that is more "round".

We need to get you a Garmin chrono. Be good and see if Santa brings one....

With what factory ammo is costing, and how easy it is to take data with the Garmin, it will pay for itself after a while.

If you only shoot short range, then it doesn't really matter unless you are just curious about your inferred pressure and the ballistics. (Ignore me because I can spend your money faster than you can make it....)

Keep that BCG well lubricated till she brakes in and inspect while you clean. It takes more rounds to brake in a rougher unit than a good one, so expect this to take around 200 rounds.

Semi Autos are dirty creatures to clean, so get yourself a workflow and the right tools for that job and don't damage (scrape too hard) the parts that are supposed to be a tight fit like the tail of the bolt. Good Luck, YMMV
