You have a sizing problem Sir

The die will size the brass to fit in the chamber. The problem was that when doing so, my comparator measures that as .020 bump when in reality, its more like .007 (max) according to Redding. Something is wrong with my comparator.

I can back that die off a smidge to get it to .002 and I bet it will still chamber. Will test that this weekend.

When you extract a fired round is there a hard click at the top of the ejection stroke on your bolt.
Does it feel tight coming out of the chamber or does it come out smooth as butter.

Try a Reddinkg body die. They don't bump the shoulder back. WRONG

Thanks 243winxb - I knew better than that and should have been more careful. I was thinking of the Redding bushing neck sizing dies. My bad.

Picked up a set of Hornady bump gauges and the Hornady gauge is getting the same measurements as Redding. The Sinclair comparator is the problem.

That is because the Sinclair is a .425 and not a .450. A .450 is what should be used on a WSM case.

Or get a Lyman large rifle ammo checker block, it has a 300 wsm checker(as well as other cartridges). Set die to size brass to drop fit (level with lower step). No need for the comparator, and you can check finished cartridges.

I would try to bump the shoulder of a fired case .002-.003 again, but this time lube the .200 line of your case generously, and see if that sizes that section a fuzz more.
