Should F-class shooters be required to pull targets?

Why would a club not offer that option is beyond me . You support the sport for years.

I think if you can get a puller and want to pay for it go for it I don't have any problem with it I still pull targets and I shoot Fclass some older guys are not in good shape that still gets them out to the range I think its up to the shooters there choice
That statement "if required" falls into place due to the fact some Tournaments are held with out pits.....
I have a friend he is disabled and he still pulls targets but he is a little slower then some so I will mark the target he pulls it down he just can't move fast he likes pulling targets with someone younger sorry no knocking on anyone's age he was busted up in a wreck he is 69
It IS a obstacle to today's shooter Larry. We go through this at our local club with bench Fclass and the ready,set,go bunch will pull their hair on some relays. Lol The Fclass guys are holding position during a string and time is working on some of them. I think pre match training helps but most of it comes from not being ready to mark a shot quickly. It's a brain buster for some of these cats! Lol You have no choice but to pace yourself with the puller....
Job #1 always have a paster ready, #2 have a job for the left hand and a job for the right. It's that easy.
I like getting the bench guys involved and they take to it like wolves!!

No way Larry ! We all get older everyday and should function as a team. I'm just throwing it on the table. I started Fclass on the bench due to a really bad back and could barely pull a target, 3 yrs of that and only off and on now. I've run my share of local matches and exclude nobody ever. It's just something we need to work on.

The lucky ones get older the others are looking on the bottom of the grass.
I don't shoot F class but a few that do know it takes numbers to make a shoot work .

Ok Larry , start a bench class at your local club then we can talk.
We have 4 f class shoots a year and 2 are held when I hunt turkey.
Rather hunt with my Grandchildren .

I usually don't post anything. This topic has tugged at some strings. I have shot mainly F class open in a few states, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. I've been very fortunate to meet the people I have over the tears at these events. matches I've been to have had paid pullers to hire. not everyone is capable of pulling targets. payed pullers allows less fortunate people the ability to do what it's is that WE ALL love and enjoy doing. I personally will pull pits as long as I physically can. I enjoy the BS sessions that come with it.
There are a few people that come to the La Crosse rifle club that NEED paid pullers. these people have to spend more money because of there disability to pull targets. If you actually take time with a clear head there inability to pull targets is another unneeded expense. this shooting isn't a cheap sport as we all know. so let's say if one of these individuals want that prometheus scale to become more competitive and they also want to shoot more to get better with equipment, condition reading etc. it's going to cost them more to compete. Another burden to them.
I find that these people are to old to do it or physical abilities are just not there. If they were capable they would I'm sure of that. without these people at the matches they do go to it just doesn't feel the same.
FWIW my opinion is it come down to one word RESPECT. I've gotten bit by poor target service over the years. I've had some real dandy moves in the pits myself. let's face it folks, we are all human and people screw up.
I'm open minded on this whole subject. if pullers show up and one isn't needed I have payed to put that puller to work. After all that's what they showed up to do pull and get paid. I know Ifor i show up to do a job and there isn't any work I'm most likely going to go elsewhere and probably not come back. Did I need the puller? No I didn't. i payed the puller because they were there and expecting to make a certain amount. I helped with keeping a frequent puller coming back so one day when someone does need these young pullers they are there at the ready.

Lions don't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep.
I really enjoy pulling targets. Sometimes I'm a bit stiff the next day. I call sore muscles a feeling of accomplishment. A little reward for my effort.
But those who can't should still be allowed to shoot.
Those who don't want the exercise are only hurting themselves.
So I don't personally have a dog in this fight but I would vote to allow paid pullers.

Wow, I just got back and read all the responses. First of all, thank you Larry for your advice, and for others, yes the option is being offered to me, and if there's a cost, I'll bear it gladly.
I am registered as a Grand Senior in the MR stage of the SW LR Nationals at Ben Avery this coming February, while my granddaughter age 20 is going to be competing in her first NRA F Class, same time, same place. I may not be pulling the targets, but I'll still be back there in the pits if they let me. Wouldn't miss it for the world; some of the best parts of the match go on behind the berm.
As for a bench class, I'm new to AZ, but back in NY we started a bench class called FV (FV200, FV250, etc.), and shot it at 200 and 250yd, and I believe another club in PA has adopted it for 300yd.
We shot it on our own target design, which preserves the proper MOA for each distance, is printed on a single sheet of 8 1/2 x14 (two bulls intersecting with the lowest value ring overlaying) with values according to the older 'V' target scoring system. Targets are fired, both stages 1 & 2 of 10rd per target in 1/2hr, then scored after taken down, with a second set fired as stages 3 and 4.
Unlimited sighters within the 1/2hr firing period. Sighters are fired on another pair of targets alongside the scoring targets, one bull for stages 1&2, the other bull for stage 3&4.
Possible is 200/40V. We shot this for at least 5 years before I left. Strictly a club competition, but there were three clubs with a migrating/rotating crowd of competitors at it.
It's an absolutely unofficial event; F T/R and F Open shot according to F class equipment rules, scoring is in 4 categories, admixtures of bench and prone, T/R and Open.
It's an alternative for clubs. No prizes or anything but bragging rights. All proceeds go to sponsoring club to help support club expenses. It helps.
The original club no longer shoots it, the volunteers drifted out, aged out, whatever; but it was covered fairly extensively for years at Snipershide, under local events; and posters DanSavage and Tony L still report on the one in PA.

That's the reality of it, great post btw. It's not the best part time job and takes a pool of people to find a few if any available. Without a garanteed job and pay level is even harder. Another is putting kids down range, just saying.... Today's world, it's somebody's responsibility to see their safe.
These electronics have come along at the right time.

Liability would be a concern...a flying spindle can do a lot of harm to a face or an eye. Every auto racing facility at which I competed had an extensive liability waiver I had to sign...even when I was no longer driving and working as a supporting crew. I have not had to do that for the matches at my local range although it is an inherently dangerous environment. If I hired a puller and he/she was injured I, as well as the range, could be sued. Just an observation and could be an issue.
I am certainly in favor for surrogate pullers for those who cannot pull because of physical limitations.
I Like this thread. I have competed for 35 years in USPSA action pistol. Complete volunteer shooting sport because it is very labor intensive stages. Over the 20 + years of running club and major's matches I have noticed the decline in volunteer help which now is putting a burden on small clubs like ours. People are finding other less labor intensive hobbies or shooting disciplines to go have fun at. I my self stayed away from trying F-class because of having to pull targets. I am not lazy and have given tons of my time to the shooting sports. I just have ZERO desire to pull targets in a pit in South Texas when our temps have been 107 to 115 all summer. So the month our local f-class club went all e-target the shoot went from 5 to 8 shooters to over 13 on avg now and we started shooting it also. I believe if you take a look across the country you will find the e-target clubs are growing in size! Now as far as paying target pullers, guys have been doing it for years in the pistol world. No one gives a crap anymore as long as everyone on the squad is pulling their weight resetting after every shooter.
