Shipping revisited

If they do it correct it should all be figured in as "overhead", the only Shipping you should pay is what USPS,UPS, FedEx, etc charge for the delivery, not handling charges....

You can break it down, insurance, handling material and related charges, plus the actual postage. It's a cost business have. Somewhere you have to cover these charges whether it is in the price of the item or showing actual shipping charges. It cost the vendor.

Again, that's why I try to figure one price (shipping including) on most products. This is usually the best way for all.

You better order it to your FL address as they don't ship to New York State any more!!

We do ship brass and bullets plus many other products to New York State. We dont, however, ship ammunition to New York State unless you are a dealer with an FFL or ammunition resale permit.

$7.95 is the internet order price and it is one time per order. You can order 1000 bullets, 1000 pieces of brass, die set, more bullets, and its still just one $7.95. No additional shipping charges.
Right now through the 13th of April, when you order $75 of in stock product, the H&I(handling & insurance) is waived. Valid for both phone and internet orders. Just mention it to the order taker on the phone at the time of the order.
Thanks everyone.

News flash!!! If Graf is shipping a box of bullets etc for $7.95 they are eating some freight. A small flat rate Priority Mail box is $6.80 now. That's as cheap as you can ship anything & much isn't going to fit in it. What I would recommend everyone doing is putting a couple boxes of bullets in a box & taking it to the Post Office to see what it will cost to ship it a couple states over. You might want to keep your nitro pills close by.

I just shipped 700 bullets clear across us for $6.80 shipping usps. I took bullets and vacuum seal them and they fix good and put in some extra packing they made it just fine. I ordered some things from grafs plus a new rcbs reloader that was on sale I didn't check with them on shipping and when I got order shipping was $93!! I could have gotten the rcbs from 5 different places for same price and free shipping! I need some Vaseline!

I would agree that $93 is TOOO much. Most residential shipment can be done via Fed Ex or UPS for mid 20's depending of course on weight. That would be good to about 30# . Yes, you can get a bunch of bullets loose in a small flat rate but no one is shipping new bullets loose to a customer. Then the screaming would begin.

How about this I was trying to send my bolt back to Bat Machine. I first went to UPS and asked how quick can I get it there? Over night will be $135.00 Oh my God I didn't want to ship the hole gun, so I said whats the cheapest? $25.00 Thanks I'll try the Post Office $12.40 it will be there in 4 days. Nothing is cheep.

Joe, A flat rate box that has plenty room for a bolt is $6.95.

Small flat rate boxes are $6.80 plus ins if wanted.

Since USPS did away with the discounts you used to get by having an account and pay and print from home, the new best way to ship is using their Regional A or B priority Mail boxes, but only have a 15 and 20 lb max weight limit.

If the USPS did away with having an account and paying from home I must be lucky. I have been doing it that way for five years and a small flat rate box is $6.10 from home vs $6.80 at the post office. Maybe I got grandfathered in or maybe it's because I do all my shipping through another website other than the USPS website.

They didn't do away with home accounts, they took away the discounts that came via click-n-ship, and charge the same price now whether you pay and print at home or have them do it at the PO.

BTW, click-n-ship small flat rate boxes prior to the across the board increases, was only $5.25.

Yes, I remember the increase from $5.25 to $6.10 on Click-N-Ship. That is why I ship and pay through PayPal multi order shipping and on that site a small flat rate box is $6.10. You used to have to find a back way into the PayPal shipping program but now you don't. Also, they offer more shipping options other than just Priority Mail on the Click-N-Ship site.

Graf & Sons thanks for the clarification on NY orders and shipping costs.

Shipping varies from the shipping point, then to the destination. It varies from State to State. If your shipping to a Mountainous area, get ready for the charges. I doesn't matter who you use, the charges are up there.

USPS flat rate boxes are nice if your product will fit into their boxes. Add insurance to the cost increases the fee.

I have also found major price differences between the shipping companies.

Insurance fees needs to be factored in with the shipping charges. Special boxing to insure you receive a damage free product is also factored in most Vendor's shipping charges.

What individuals pay and companies that have accounts and ship a bunch pay is different. Companies make money on shipping. Nothing new. When the same product is the same price everywhere what is a company to do to make a profit?

Heh, all this shipping cost talk reminds me of the time the Army wanted a part that shipped in a 16' crate overnighted to them.

...to Kandahar Airbase Afghanistan

...in the middle of the Afghan war (2003).

I think I managed 36 hours at ~$20K

This might be true with large shipments (excess of 50lbs), but most companies pass the savings on to the consumer. On small items, including barrels, there is a very minimal difference if any.

I don't think your really aware of the cost associated with shipping. I felt the same way until I started shipping over 6 years ago. I think maybe you are referring to "Postage" only, not all the related shipping cost. I believe every Vendor's shipping department employee's are looking for a paycheck at the end of the week. Boxes, tape, staplers, wrap, or filling material doesn't come free, at least not to me!

Shipping is not a profit center. If it is, I need someone to explain it to me, I am missing the boat somewhere.

Some Vendors do absorb some if not all shipping cost. The end users feelings is why most of my items are quoted "Shipping Included". Several other companies including the ones who commented here are doing the same thing, either absorbing all of the shipping, or part of it. I realize this does not apply to 100% of the Vendors.

This subject can be debated forever. I want to thank the Vendors who commented on this subject. It's an area that is very misunderstood by many. Please take note there was shipping charge increase by most of the major shipping companies that took effect this month. I like many others wish it was the other way, but I don't believe I have ever seen shipping charges by the shipping companies go down.

No I'm not AMMO or FFL Dealer and there is no State system set up yet for me to order from you and have it shipped to a NY State FFL/AMMO Dealer....

So you are saying you will ship Powder, Primers and bullets to my door in New York State?

My shipping prices for CONUS is on my website. I also have a 20+ mile trip to my post office.

Tail, I live in NYS and YES I have powder, primers and bullets shipped right to my door from whoever I decide to purchase them from. It is loaded ammo you have to have shipped to a FFL holder.

There is no system in place for the Ammo shipping to a FFL......

Every site I have tried refuse.....

Companies make money on shipping.

When the same product is the same price everywhere what is a company to do to make a profit?

OK, help me try to understand this....

A standard whiz-gizmo costs $20 from everyone.

Company A charges $5 to ship it.

Company B charges $10 to ship it, as their "only way to make a profit".

So..... how much profit does Company B make when I give my business to Company A?
