Shipping rates

The UPS Stores are horrible, they jack the shipping prices at least double and charge more
for insurance then a over the counter UPS hub. Plus they want to package it too. more $$$
Thats how they make their money. Last place you want to ship a pkg. from.
And that's coming from a retired UPS driver.
A friend of mine shipped me a pellet gun two weeks ago. Bless his heart as we say, he took it to one of those UPS stores in a strip mall. I got to looking at the package for his address and noticed they have 34 lbs on the package. This is a 6.5 lb air rifle ( no scope) I sent him an email and told him he got screwed. He said “the package was heavy.” 28 lbs for a box and bubble wrap and tape? I don’t use those places. Direct to UPS or FedEx. Shipped a pair of Swarovski to CT from SC. $62 (UPS) with $4000 insurance.

I will add to my previous post, for less than an extra 3 bucks, Fedex comes to the house and picks it up.
I think different areas get varying quality of service from shippers. Around here, I do my best to keep from dealing with fedex but others love it in their area. As much as it seems like the end of the world when they screw up, usps is best for my shipping needs and ups is very good too. It's amazing how often they get it right vs how many times they don't. They all screw up at times but percentage wise, they're all excellent and way cheaper than hopping in my truck and delivering it myself. Lol! I too, avoid ups stores. They are a middle man and get paid for it. Most of the time, they are unnecessary.

I use Pirateship almost exclusively. If you get insurance through them it is 3rd party (Shipstation, I believe). Although I've never made a claim, so can't tell you if its better. Rates are usually less than direct through either my UPS or USPS accounts. If it's heavy, (under 50#) check UPS Flat Rate direct through UPS account, as it can be quite a bit less and PirateShip does not offer the UPS Flat Rate.

Maybe Walmart might get in the shipping business. How would that work out? Walmart is pretty much everywhere and be great go to store and pick up a personal package. In fact open it in front of associate under camera. Then it will be revealed who didn’t pack correctly and condition of item.

Amazon already is in the shipping business (internally). I'll be very curious to see if they're not competing with FedEx and UPS very shortly. I think it's quite possible they have more trucks than either one of the others. Their fleet is certainly growing.

That will be a cold day in hell for me. I haven't set foot in a Walmart or Sam's in years.
Mr. Walton I do believe created the part time staff business model that so many big businesses follow.
I'd have to dig to find it, but there was an article out about one of his daughters offering to donate about 6000 acres to Texas Parks and Wildlife. Catch was....they had to outlaw all motorized boat traffic on the stretch of Brazos river her mansion was on.
If I'm wrong my apologies ahead of time.
Guess I'm derailing my own thread. Didn't mean to get on my soapbox.

I’m using pirate ship for everything including discounts on usps priority flat rate shipments.

Pirateship is great... good customer service...

BE AWARE - They have policies about the type of things we like to ship around here.

I shipped a Barrel blank via UPS through pirateship... UPS lost it... and they pointed out a policy that UPS has when using third parties... absolutely no gun parts (except scopes) - they still helped track down the package and managed the claim...

Anyway, others have said it... pack your stuff well. Go to your local post office and take a bunch of priority boxes, they're free. Use them as packing material... use good packing tape, cover every inch of the package, especially if it's heavy.

UPS store refused to send a spotting scope back to Bushnell for repair. They insisted it was a "gun part".
