Sharp Shooters Supply

all i can say is i am more than pleased with my experience with SSS and Fred and.Lisa. Glad they are in business. Now i for one when i send something to a gunsmith i just forget about it until one day it arrives on my doorstep. it is like christmas. Just don't get in a hurry. Let them do it the best they can.

hell i sent an old remington action from 1973 to bartlein for a bluprint and new barrel. took a year. i had forgotten about it when they finally sent me.an email it.was shipping. put it in a McMillan edge stock. shoots like a dream.

my experience is gunsmiths are.slow. that is why l like the do it yourself aspects of the savage. don't send a rifle off for work that you really need.

The key point your forgetting is that they are taking money up front for things not done yet which mkes them accountable.
It is theft if no communication and missed deadlines. If they didn’t take money upfront then their is no issue, but they steal from you until legal means are neccessary.

funny

i gave them my credit card number and.they never billed.me till the.work was shipped. i know they say they want the money up front and there is probably a good reason why that is their policy but that was not the case with me. i really expected them to.

i have learned a lot dealing with the public. there are those out there that you couldn't make happy if you gave them the product, shot the salesman who sold it to them and gave them their money back. these individuals are usually the most vocal.

i have been very happy with my dealings with SSS. Fred is a true artisan of his craft. i feel lucky that there are those like him around.

our world has become a land of 24hr stores and overnight delivery. Fred is a one.man band with all the work he needs. i am sure he would be very happy not to have to deal with those who are a pain in the azz!

You have people who ordered in Dec and were quoted 8 weeks (Feb) and by Oct they had no product an no answer. This is NOT a demanding consumer issue, this is a crappy vendor issue. I don't care what sort of "artisan" you are, if you are drastically misquoting timelines to customers and not communicating you are a terrible business owner, period. If he is happy with whatever customer base will allow him to quote 2 months and take a year to deliver, more power to him. But he is OFF my vendor list and I LOVE Savage builds.

I've had my own interactions with them on minor things, more positive than negative, but based on the balance of what I have heard I would NEVER give them a piece off a firearm which would limit me from using it in its current state. Frankly I don't think I'll ever do business with them again.

When McMillan takes 9 months to deliver a stock they tell my this up front. I want the McMillan stock, and I know the timerframe, and they consistently meet it. SSS doesn't do this.

That's a first then. They've taken the money Everytime I've placed an order on the day it was placed. From my account.

I ordered a bolt handle, polysled and improved extractor kit and sent a cashiers check as the website says. The polysled and extractor kit arrived with no packing slip and no mention of the bolt handle. Lisa has not answered my emails. I finally found a phone number and will try to call on Monday. This is not what I expect for customer service.

After all of the above I still went ahead an ordered a part from them the 1st week of December...So, here I sit twiddling my thumbs!!

If you need to follow up after they don't ship your stuff for a few months, use your wife's or husband's email and say you want to purchase something. You will get an almost immediate response or phone call with them asking for credit card information

Several years ago I was in the area of this shop so I did a favor for a friend and picked up a recoil lug that he had ordered several months prior. What I saw was what appeared to be a disorganized one man operation. This guy was running from one machine to the next, stopped to talk to me, called his wife in the house/office and went back to work.
I stood there for 20-30 min. before the wife appeared to discuss what I wanted. Then she had to go back to the house to retrieve the information.
Yep, another wait. She finally comes back and says the order isn't ready yet. I tell her the customer was told when he ordered it that they are always in stock.
(Makes sense to make small items in batches).
The bottom line here is this. Taken the information you have here if you order from this place know that the turn around time will be long.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

The fact that he is taking in new business, but is way late in delivering the goods means his talents are grossly over subscribed for his current situation. Try to imagine that for a minute, being so good at your craft that your customers would have you work 24/7 to get their hands on the fruits of your labor.
There really is such a thing as being over successful. And the ironic downside is that eventually you get labeled "unreliable" or worse, a "rip-off " when in actuality, you get sick just like everyone else, or have family troubles, or need a vacation, etc.

The self-employed have the worst bosses. Been there, done that, and now I'd much rather work as an employee of someone else.

FWIW, last year I ordered two Savage improved ejection kits and got them two days later. Can't ask for more than that.

I understand what you're saying but at some point it becomes flat out mismanagement. He should stop taking work or take work in batches. Start a website or Facebook. Update said page as to whether orders/work is being accepted. He'd get into a rhythm.

Accepting payment and cashing checks many many months from delivery is unscrupulous if you ask me. I just got a SSS comp trigger, but only because I didn't have to order from them direct. Otherwise it would have been another Timney no matter how awesome their trigger might be.

Tactical Works, has SSS triggers. They have stock's, chassis systems, bolt handles, parts for bolt head, ring's & base's. If something is not in stock, they let you know. If an item is out of stock, they will E- mail when it is in stock. What a concept.

Early on this past summer I contacted them via e-mail about a small job I needed done, and have yet to get a response. A month or so later I called to inquire about getting the same job done, and the answering machine said "we are not accepting any phone calls at this time". A friend of mine who has had a lot of work done there said he's not gotten any answers to his calls or e-mails either.

I sent another email politely asking for information and Lisa finally answered to let me know that they had to make more bolt handles and get them colored. Today I got an email from her telling me that the bolt handle is in the mail. I guess one just needs to be really patient.

Larry Racine, LPR gunsmithing-Keene NH. Excellent work, honest and professional. Have had multiple Savage action rifles built by him. Answers his own phone. Former Palma team member, shooter. First rate individual.

Had their True and Time service on my brand new PTA action.

  • Sent action in on June 2, 2017.
  • They predicted I would have it back "by the end of the month" in their acknowledgement email when they received the action.
  • Ordered a stock a few days later.
  • Charged for both items immediately.
  • Received the T&T action 10 months later on March 30, 2018 in a box that reeked of cigarette smoke.
  • Have not received the stock yet.

If they had told me up front it would be 10 months I would have set my expectations accordingly. However, we discussed the timeline before I sent in the action and agreed that over the hot summer they would complete the work (too hot to shoot at my local range during the heat of summer). So my expectation was set for end of summer at the latest.

Started contacting them in August. Was told it would be "soon". Contacted several times over the next few months with varying excuses on why the action was not completed, including that they wanted to bed the action to the stock I ordered. If that were the case I should have received both items instead of just the action. Something tells me the stock will be a generic bedding and not to my specific action as they indicated.

I finally gave up contacting them in January 2018 and just figured it would happen eventually. Lost my job in July 2017 so really haven't had the motivation nor the funds to compete (no rifle either). Let them know in several emails that funds were tight and that I was selling off a bunch of stuff and would like to sell the action and stock as well and could they get it to me so I could pay my bills. They said they had a buyer for the action in December however after a month of going back and forth it was obvious it would not happen.

I now have a T&T action, no stock, and I sold off my scopes as well as other gear.

I had heard that I would be able to work the action "with one finger" once the work was done. A quick test proves that wrong. It feels maybe slightly smoother/lighter than when I sent it in 10 months ago however by no means a one finger action. I'll play with it when I get a stock and see how it shoots. It (the action) may be up for sale shortly after that.

Needless to say my experience with Fred and Lisa was not exemplary. Quite frustrating. Unlike anything I have experienced in this hobby to date.

On the flip side are the many many honest and reputable businesses I have dealt with such as James at Northland Shooters Supply from whom I purchased the action and two pre-fit barrels. All of which were delivered on time and to my satisfaction. James also answers the phone and talks to you, providing sound advice.

Buyer beware.

Well, I finally got the part I ordered, (first week of DEC.) about 3 weeks ago. The fit and finish was second to none, very happy. But, the wait!

True that, James is great to deal with....
