Sharp Shooters Supply

One of my good friends did some business with them around 2004 thru 2006. Everything he ever needed or wanted he got within a couple of weeks and every time he called the answered his call. He called Lisa sweetheart and talked about Fred like he was a saint. Stocks, barrels, triggers, barrel nuts, etc.; it all poured in like water whenever he dialed their number.
Maybe you guys aren't being sweet enough to little Lisa?
LOL
PS
I'd ask him how he did it but, unfortunately, he passed away in 2009. Cancer really sux.

I did a lot of business with SSS several years ago. Spoke with Fred occasionally, Lisa often. They had more business than they could handle. Maybe they got too big too fast. I never expected to get anything back from them in any certain time period. I knew that he would get to it when he got to it and it would be 100% right. I knew that he had a large queue and he also had to take some time off every now and then.

That business model doesn't work for a lot of people I guess. I don't think that they (SSS) really want to do business with those folks.

True that if someone else was as good as Fred, they could clean up. At least until they got too busy themselves!

I sent in a long action for a t & t, had the bolt fluted and got a 20 moa rail in October and got it back in January.

Prior to sending it in I emailed Lisa to let me know when to send it in that was early September she responded early October and I sent it in within 2 days.

I'm fine with that but I understand a lot of people aren't. I'll do more business with them as long as they're in business.

That's the second one I've had done in last year with simular results on the first.

So how long did you wait for anything that Fred worked on for you? It's been 2 years, 2 months since I paid Fred to start on my projects. I've never had any certain expectations on when he would be done with them, but a update every now and again would be nice. Their site says they take, and do work in chronological order. From what I gather from this site, and the Savage forum, that's not the case.

That's what I have come to expect from most work I have had done by other gunsmiths.

Typically 2-4 months but Lisa always gave me a 6 week window. When he went on allocation, she had people hold their stuff until they came up in the queue and then send it in. That took over 6 months and then was back to me in 2 months.

If I had paid someone and they had not started something in over a year (without me knowing why and when) I would be paying them a visit.

Again, it's been a few years and things may have changed.

Well i sent them a savage dual port target action. Had Fred do time and true, benchrest trigger, stock and full bed. Took a while but i am never in a hurry on gun stuff. Screwed on a shilen prefit 6BR bull. This rifle is awesome. Fred does great work.

I buy stuff from them time to time. Never have.a problem getting.in contact. Send Lisa an email and she always replies within a.day.

Try being nice. True artisans of their craft should not.be rushed. Patience is a virtue. If you want it tommorow Amazon is a better source.

Well, I ordered and payed for a LVT stock for my Savage 12FTR back on 6/25/17, and have heard nothing. I was originally quoted about a 12 week lead time. I got very timely answers to my email PRIOR to the sale, but a recent email inquiry as to the status of my stock goes unanswered. So after reading this thread, seems I will eventually get my stock, but just stand in line and be patient like the rest. Sounds like I won't be disappointed and that's most important.

I ordered a stock on December 20th of 2016. Was quoted 8 weeks. After repeated emails with no answer on October 27th 2017 I filed a fruad claim with my Debit card company. 3 days later I had a tracking number. And my stock made it 3 days after that. Needless to say, I will never order anything from them again.

This comes up on the Savage Shooters Forum all the time even though the moderator tries his best to keep them to a minimum. That's one of the reasons I'm no longer a member of that site.

Reading feedback like this is not good. But for now I'll just stay in "wait mode" hopefully I won't have to resort to similar measures.

i have learned a lot dealing with the public. there are those out there that you couldn't make happy if you gave them the product, shot the salesman who sold it to them and gave them their money back. these individuals are usually the most vocal.

i have been very happy with my dealings with SSS. Fred is a true artisan of his craft. i feel lucky that there are those like him around.

our world has become a land of 24hr stores and overnight delivery. Fred is a one.man band with all the work he needs. i am sure he would be very happy not to have to deal with those who are a pain in the azz!

I was a loyal SSS customer way before most people ever even knew who they were. I only gave up on them when my HBR stock order that was supposed to take 12 weeks took almost 12 MONTHS!

Good luck Road Clam!!! People either love or hate SSS... Its funny to me to see their fanboys take up for them, while people who most certainly have been misled about lead times and other things simply tell the truth... I wish them the best for there is a huge market for their services, however their business model could use some help.

What would be interesting to know if their "optimistic" lead times were accidental or intentional to secure sales. I've worked in custom cabinet manufacturing for 11 years now, in the busy times we extend our lead times to accommodate sales volume versus capacity. We might miss a date by a couple days or a week but if we turned a 12 week lead time into 12 months and didn't answer phone calls or emails we'd have been out of business a long time ago. The difference being we're a 100+ person factory versus a one man show but you still have to realize your capacity and capabilities.

I can't for the life of me figure out why people continue to take chances and do business with Fred Moreo and SSS. I had my first bad experience with him 16 years ago. People calling him such a fine craftsman is just plain laughable. He screwed up a simple chamber job and refused to own it. His mistake caused me to screw up 500 pieces of new brass, thinking that the chamber would be what I had paid him to do. Since that time there have been literally hundreds of testimonials about his lack of communication, time overruns and screwed up work. I once owned a Savage with one of his evolution triggers and it was worse than a factory job (no I didn't pay him to do it, I bought it from another dissatisfied customer). I do feel for you folks who have paid him and don't have the product, but good grief people, don't you do some due diligence before you hand people $$?

Those people might not be a pain in the azz if they weren't lied to about when their product would arrive and ignored after their money was taken. Just my opinion though.

Seems as reviving this older thread has raised much contradicting opinions of SSS. I will certainly follow up with a final experience post once I receive (or not receive) my LVT stock.

all i can say is i am more than pleased with my experience with SSS and Fred and.Lisa. Glad they are in business. Now i for one when i send something to a gunsmith i just forget about it until one day it arrives on my doorstep. it is like christmas. Just don't get in a hurry. Let them do it the best they can.

hell i sent an old remington action from 1973 to bartlein for a bluprint and new barrel. took a year. i had forgotten about it when they finally sent me.an email it.was shipping. put it in a McMillan edge stock. shoots like a dream.

my experience is gunsmiths are.slow. that is why l like the do it yourself aspects of the savage. don't send a rifle off for work that you really need.
